This seminar explores the ongoing marginalisation of the Malaiyaha community,
descendants of South Indian workers brought to Sri Lanka during British colonial rule to work on tea estates. Despite generations of contribution to one of the country’s most iconic industries, they continue to face systemic exploitation and neglect. With rising casualisation of labour and loss of entitlements, their future is increasingly uncertain.
