Information about migrant worker exploitation [SEC=OFFICIAL]
We are asking for your help in educating migrant workers and your communities about important new laws to help address migrant worker exploitation
The new laws aim to deter employers and others in the labour chain from using a person’s migration status to exploit them. There are also
stronger reporting protections
for visa holders experiencing workplace exploitation. The new protections recognise some temporary visa holders may fear visa cancellation if they report exploitation or support an investigation into their employer.
It is important that everyone in the community understands what migrant worker exploitation means and how to report it, whether it is happening to them or someone they know.
You can access in-language material on the
migrant worker protections website that has been translated into about 13 different languages.
Please find attached and available for download
a fact sheet explaining the new laws and reporting protections
- a comic strip explaining the new laws
- a social media kit targeted at migrant workers.
The social media kit contains key messages, social media posts and downloadable social media tiles and GIFs. Please share this with your community members and ask them to share the content on their own social media platforms. They can tag @AustralianDepartmentofHomeAffairs.
In addition, in-language material is available on the
migrant worker protections website which includes a translated comic strip and animation.
If you have any questions about the social media kit, fact sheets or comic, please contact immiproductsdevelopment@homeaffairs.gov.au. We really appreciate your help in raising community awareness about these important new measures.
