SUNDAY CHOICE – THERE IS A BEAUTIFUL GOD ABOVE – By Charles Schokman

In the Bible, God’s beauty is not primarily about physical appearance, but rather about the perfection and desirability of His character and attributes. It encompasses His holiness, righteousness, love, and faithfulness, among others. The concept of God’s beauty is closely tied to His perfection and the harmony of all that is truly good. Some biblical passages also speak of the beauty of God’s creation and the beauty that He inspires in His people.

Elaboration:

God as the Source of Beauty:

The Bible often portrays God as the ultimate source and standard of beauty. His attributes, such as love, wisdom, and power, are seen as beautiful because they are perfect and desirable.

 Beauty in God’s Character:

Scripture uses the term “beauty” to describe God’s character, emphasising His

perfection and the desirable qualities He embodies. This includes His holiness,

 righteousness, and love.

   Beauty in God’s Actions:

God’s actions, such as His creation and redemption, are also seen as beautiful.

The beauty of nature and the beauty of human beings, when reflecting God’

character, are also expressions of His beauty.

      Beauty in God’s Presence:

Some passages speak of the beauty of God’s presence, particularly in His dwelling place, the temple or sanctuary. This beauty is often associated with His glory and majesty.

  • Experiencing God’s Beauty:

Psalm 27:4 expresses a desire to “gaze upon the beauty of the Lord,” suggesting that believers can experience God’s beauty through worship, prayer, and fellowship with Him.

 Beauty in God’s People:

While God’s beauty is primarily in His character, the Bible also speaks of the beauty of God’s people, especially when they reflect His character and live in accordance with His will.

Jesus as the Embodiment of God’s Beauty:

Jesus, as the Son of God, is also seen as embodying God’s beauty. Although Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would not have outward beauty, Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection are considered a demonstration of God’s love and grace, which are aspects of His beauty.

Pray these hymns reflect the beautiful of Jesus and be a blessing to us.

You are welcome to pass this on
