Uyangoda said Dharmasiri\u2019s \u201cHansa Vilak\u201d was one fo the best Sri Lankan films.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">Born in 1949 in Wadduwa, Dharmasiri Bandaranayake cut his teeth on stage drama in the early 70s and on the cinema in 1977. Apart from \u201cHansa vilak\u201d, he created \u201cThunveni Yamaya\u201d, \u201cBhava Duka\u201d and \u201cBhava Karma\u201d. His plays \u201cEka adipathi\u201d, \u201cMakarakshaya\u201d, \u201cDhawala Beeshana\u201d and \u201cTrojan kanthawo\u201d are famous for political satire and controversy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong>Prof. Mahesan Nirmalan, deputy Dean, Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, Manchester University, UK presented the lifetime medal to Dharmasiri on behalf of the Vice Chancellor of the university<\/strong>. Speaking of Dharmasiri\u2019s contribution to art and peace in Sri Lanka, Prof. Nirmalan said, \u201cThrough art Dharmasiri brought the peace landscape of Sri Lanka to a different level\u201d. Nirmalan said Dharmasiri had stood for what was right and championed ethnic harmony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong>Prof. S. Mawnuguru<\/strong>, former Acting Vice Chancellor Eastern University spoke of Dharmasiri\u2019s contribution towards taking the peace message through drama to the war-stricken north and east of the country.
