Royal Thomian activities during the January-February period<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

A quick wrap up\u00a0of activities during the January-February period is below.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sports Corner –\u00a0<\/u><\/strong>\u201c The only one who can tell you ‘you can’t win’ is you and you don’t have to listen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The tradition continued with the 28th\u00a0Royal Thomian<\/strong>\u00a0encounter in Sydney on Australia Day at the Punchbowl Oval.\u00a0Attendees \u2013 players and supporters alike – had a memorable day, enjoying\u00a0the ambiance, Sri Lankan food and of course the amazing cricket played on the day of the mini version of the much anticipated 144th encounter\u00a0scheduled to be played in Colombo in a few weeks’ time. Safe travels to those of you making it across the ocean to witness the great encounter in person.<\/span><\/p>\n

Results \u2013 Open STC won by 80 runs,\u00a0Masters RC by 5 wickets, Classics RC by 6 wickets.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many thanks to the STC OBA NSW\/ACT who organised the\u00a0event this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two days later, the battle for\u00a0the Kari-Lawton Trophy Classics\u00a0Over 60 Tournament between Old Royalists in NSW\/ACT and Victoria got underway at the\u00a0South Maroota Reserve in NSW. Hosted by RCOBA NSW and ACT, attendees\u00a0had a ball as usual, with some amazing Sri Lankan cuisine\u00a0to top the day off!<\/span><\/p>\n

Result \u2013\u00a0NSW\/ACT team won by 39 runs<\/span><\/p>\n

The Committee is considering rescheduling the T20 encounter planned for April to next year’s fixture.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Royal Valentine\u2019s Ball \u2013 A resounding success!<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking of having a ball, the much awaited showcase event of our calendar, the\u00a0Royal Valentine\u2019s Ball was held on 4 February 2023 at the\u00a0Waterview,\u00a0Bicentennial Drive, Sydney Olympic Park.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ladies and gentlemen who attended the ball were treated to a grand evening featuring live and\u00a0DJ music, three course sit down dinner and drinks, amazing prizes, presentations, souvenir, raffles,\u00a0auctions and gifts for all to remember the event.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event exceeded all expectations of the organising committee (the RCOBA NSW and ACT<\/span>
\nCommittee), most notably in the \u201cElegant and Fun\u201d school event of the year category.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Committee wishes to convey a BIG thank you to all those who supported the event in many many\u00a0ways, big and small, including providing sponsorships, prizes,\u00a0advertisements, getting involved in\u00a0auctions, busting a move or three on the dance floor and last but by no means least\u2026by attending\u00a0the event.<\/span><\/p>\n
