Thomas\u2019 College and Trinity;\u00a0<\/strong>and also against a team of planters at the grounds in Darrawella in the hill country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thuppahis.com\/2024\/01\/07\/when-st-peters-of-adelaide-toured-ceylon-in-january-1928\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-49618 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thuppahis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/05-STC-vs-Peters-1928.jpg?resize=768%2C597&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"elanka\" width=\"600\" height=\"341\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">Image Source:<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 16px;\" href=\"https:\/\/thuppahis.com\/2024\/01\/07\/when-st-peters-of-adelaide-toured-ceylon-in-january-1928\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thuppahis<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">The scoring book is part of the school archives and so too a photograph of the whole squad intermingled with the Thomian squad.\u00a0 This picture can be considered a \u201ctreasure\u201d because of the personnel embraced therein: notably\u00a0<strong>Canon de Saram<\/strong>\u00a0(then Vice-Principal of S. Thomas);\u00a0 one<strong>\u00a0Dudley S. Senanayake\u00a0<\/strong>(who became one Ceylon\u2019s Prime Ministers);\u00a0<strong>Richard Hermon<\/strong>\u00a0(captaining S. Thomas);\u00a0<strong>Robert Senanayake<\/strong>\u00a0(later a President of the Board of Control for Ceylon Cricket in the 1950s and 1960s);\u00a0<strong>IH Seppelt<\/strong>\u00a0\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026.. presumably from the lineage producing the famous line of Seppelt wines):\u00a0<strong>SF Downer<\/strong>\u00a0(whose son became South Australias PM and served as Foreign Minister for Australia writ large\u2019).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">Of the scoresheets presented in\u00a0<em>Essaying Cricket<\/em>\u00a0 \u2014 only the batting of the local schools\u2019 teams were so privileged \u2014\u00a0<strong>the most outstanding innings was that of the captain fo S.Thomas, Richard Hermon, who made 97 runs\u00a0<\/strong>at the SSC grounds of that day. He therefore outshone other schoolboys from his generation in the three schools who went on to become stars on our cricket fields, notably \u2018Sago\u2019 Jayawickrema and FC Derek de Saram.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thuppahis.com\/2024\/01\/07\/when-st-peters-of-adelaide-toured-ceylon-in-january-1928\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
