Recruitment drive to engage with diverse voices in NSW<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Wednesday, 24 January 2024 <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

NSW residents who are connected to their community have many opportunities to provide advice to NSW Government through different advisory functions at Multicultural NSW. Multicultural NSW is seeking expressions of interest for three different advisory functions and encourage applications that reflect the rich diversity of NSW including gender, age, geographic location, cultural diversity and people living with a disability. Successful applicants will be appointed by the NSW Minister for Multiculturalism.<\/span><\/p>\n

Multicultural NSW Advisory Board<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Multicultural NSW is currently seeking expressions of interest for Advisory Board members from diverse backgrounds who have deep community ties, cross cultural understanding and can demonstrate community leadership.<\/span><\/p>\n

Advisory Board members will use their skills, expertise and lived experience to elevate the voices of their communities to inform the work of Multicultural NSW.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Former NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Nick Kaldas APM is the current Advisory Board Chairperson.<\/span><\/p>\n

Regional Community Networks and Multicultural Youth Network<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Multicultural NSW is also currently seeking expressions of interest for two state-wide community engagement programs: the Regional Community Networks (RCNs) and the Multicultural Youth Network (MYN).<\/span><\/p>\n

There will be 10 RCNs across NSW, with up to 20 members in each. Members will provide their lived experience on local issues that affect their lives and their communities. At least one member of each RCN will also represent the local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Three RCNs will be based in the Greater Sydney area: North and East Sydney, Western Sydney and South Sydney.<\/span><\/p>\n

Seven RCNs will be based in regional areas of NSW including Western NSW, Illawarra and South East NSW, Northern NSW, New England North West, Hunter and Central Coast, Murray Lower Darling and Riverina.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each of the RCNs will include up to three young people (18-24 years). Young people from all 10 RCNs will also form the MYN. MYN members will meet regularly to share advice about issues that impact young people.<\/span><\/p>\n

Multicultural NSW Acting CEO Catherine Davies said:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNSW is one of the most successful multicultural societies globally. We all achieve this by ensuring we empower our diverse communities to be involved in our democratic processes.\u00a0 In NSW we listen to each other, we work together, we develop shared solutions so everyone in NSW can enjoy the rich social mosaic that is our wonderful multicultural society and in doing so we create stronger connections with government.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe NSW Government also recognises the differing experiences of young people and so we\u2019re making sure that the voices of culturally diverse youth are also heard by delivering on the election promise to build a state-wide, Multicultural Youth Network.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Multicultural NSW Advisory Board chair Nick Kaldas APM said:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBeing appointed to the Multicultural NSW Advisory Board is recognition of the important work you do to promote multiculturalism and social cohesion across and within the community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to working with the new members over the coming years to continue to build on the work of those who have come before us for future generations.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

RCN Multicultural Youth Network member Marwa Alkasim said:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am interested in giving a voice and representing young people my age and young people who have experienced having to resettle in a new home.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so important to have even the slightest influence over change to young people\u2019s experience who are finding themselves in a new society.\u201d
