From a very early age, not only did I enjoy reading good poetry, I started writing my own. Proudly, after coming to Australia, my poetry has not only been &#8220;accepted&#8221; Internationally, it has been &#8220;published&#8221; in a beautiful hard-back volume, &#8220;The Tide of Hours&#8221; featuring the best poets &amp; poetry of 2003. As a result, I was &#8220;invited&#8221; to the U.S.of A. many times but, because of an extremely busy &#8220;work schedule&#8221; it was impossible for me to make it to America.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SKEmuLEnrUc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">The following were a trio of &#8220;poems&#8221; of mine, submitted. One was &#8220;Poetry for Peace&#8221;(my advice to the World), &amp; the other&#8221;Old Ceylon,my Island of dreams&#8221;(later composed as a song,with music added)&amp; to begin with, was &#8220;The Butterfly&#8221;. Please read and hopefully, enjoy :-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">&#8220;THE BUTTERFLY&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Like the wings of a butterfly, emerging at last<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">From it&#8217;s golden chrysalis, cocoon of the past<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Comes the &#8220;getting of wisdom&#8221;, as I read a good book<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Yes, they&#8217;re still available, if one cares to look<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">And watch, from our Planet, beautiful and vast<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">The wings of a butterfly, emerging at last<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Now, see how this butterfly flutters-by, away<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">It&#8217;s life on Earth short, not much time to &#8220;stay&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">But fulfils it&#8217;s reason for existence on Earth<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Still, it&#8217;s beauty alone, to the beholder, is worth<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">More than treasures &amp; wealth, mere money can buy<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Is this, God&#8217;s creation of one butterfly<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">He&#8217;ll flutter his beautiful wings, till a mate<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Flies directly below him, and she seals his fate<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">They &#8220;touch wings&#8221; together, &amp; then, bye &amp; bye<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">A golden chrysalis holds a new butterfly<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">The &#8220;moral&#8221; of this story, what man should aim for<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Is to strive to continue, make love &amp; not war D.K.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;MY ADVICE TO THE WORLD&#8221;<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Words are inadequate, phrases, too small<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">A World without peace, is a World, not at all<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">We live and we die, in a life-span too short<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To &#8220;not love our neighbour&#8221;, as we have been taught<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Matters not, in which Country, a person is born<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Their homeland&#8217;s too precious, by strife, to be torn<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Cause war means just one thing, insatiable greed<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">The desire for power, to own more than we need<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Thus, millions have died, with more deaths to come<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">If we fight senseless battles, that can never be won<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">It&#8217;s high time the great flag of PEACE is unfurled<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">And that&#8217;s why I write, my &#8220;Advice to the World.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">My &#8220;Advice to the World&#8217;, is an anthem of Peace<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Only God is all-powerful, it&#8217;s Him we displease<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">When we glorify war, with it&#8217;s suffering &amp; pain<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Would you rather not sing a love-song again<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">With lyrics unending, music, sweet and true<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">I dedicate &#8220;Advice to the World&#8221;, and to you. D.K.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">&#8220;OLD CEYLON, MY ISLAND OF DREAMS&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Oh, to walk once again<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">On those sun-kissed white sands<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Of that tropical Island shore<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To feel the warm clasp<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Of friendly brown hands<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">In welcome, wherever I go<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">This is my one &amp; dearest wish<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Impossible, though it now seems<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To revisit the Country<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">In which I was born<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Old Ceylon, my Island of dreams<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To wander through Pettah<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">And it&#8217;s milling crowd<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">I know I&#8217;d be happy again<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">And though I&#8217;d be soaked<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To the skin, I&#8217;d be proud<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To stand in her monsoonal rain<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To taste once again<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Sweet &#8220;Kaju-pulung&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">And gaze on a &#8220;cats-eye&#8221; that gleams<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To hear Kandyan drums<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">And those sweet native songs<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Of old-Ceylon, my Island of dreams<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">&#8220;CHORUS&#8221;(Sung)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">These are my memories, sweet precious memories<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">These are my memories of yore<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">These are my memories, wonderful memories<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">I&#8217;ll take them with me, when I go<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To see the clock-tower<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">In Colombo Fort<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">And walk all along<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Galle-Face green<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To watch all the lasses<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Who now seem to sport<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">The brightest of <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Bright colours seen<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">What I would&#8217;nt give<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">For a walk in the night<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Neath a sky full of stars<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">And moonbeams<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To watch a fire-fly try <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To spread all it&#8217;s light<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">On old Ceylon, my Island of dreams<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">To reminisce gently<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">And, once again meet<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">All the old friends<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">I&#8217;m longing to see<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">And hear, once again<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">The fast rhythmic beat<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Of the &#8220;Ruhunu Kumari&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">As she wends her long way<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Thru Lanka&#8217;s green Vales<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">By the rush of meandering streams<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">It&#8217;s a Country, so small<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">With a beauty, so rare<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">It&#8217;s old Ceylon, my Island of dreams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">&#8220;CHORUS&#8221; (Repeat)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">The years of my child-hood<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Were second to none<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">But have all slipped away<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">Far too fast<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">A million memories<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">I remember each one<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">My only regret? , they are past<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">The leopard, the elephant<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #0000ff;\">The swift &#8220;flying-fish&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px;
