The younger generation is moving away from Real Estate, whereas the Seniors are still engrossed emotionally in Real Estate. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Seniors have built houses not only for themselves but also for their children, and even for those who have settled abroad or outside the home State. <\/span><\/p>\n

The next generation is least interested in these houses, howsoever the elephant house? They have no time to look at these gigantic properties.*The next generation is very asset light. <\/span><\/p>\n

One such Senior Citizen died at the age of eighty five. His Wife had already passed away few years ago. One son lives in London and the other one in New Zealand. They have the nationality of those countries. Neither was interested in the house their father had built in his prime age.<\/span><\/p>\n

The father had written a will before his death to give all the property equally to both his children. The sons did not have time to get all the property in their names and then sell it. Both of them made a power of attorney to sell the property in someone’s name. Thereafter the proceeds from the sale of the property were sent to their home Country. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our second traditional investment is in Gold and Silver items. Investing in Gold and Silver is often very emotional. This is done in the form of ornaments for daughters-in-law or for grandchildren, instead of buying pure gold. <\/span><\/p>\n

The new generation often does not like old fashioned jewellery items. As such, they are broken down into new designs. It goes back and forth. The new generation prefers to wear imitation or fake rather than genuine jewellery. <\/span><\/p>\n

In some countries, Gold is kept in pure form as an investment and a very little quantity in jewellery items. The third emotional investment is children’s higher education. Occasionally, senior citizens take out loans for their children’s higher education by cutting down on their hobbies\/needs. When the children get jobs, they pay off debts but in some cases the parents have to repay these loans. Going beyond this, some Seniors are investing in policies or other investments to facilitate education for their grandchildren. <\/span><\/p>\n

Taking out a loan for children’s education is understandable but why to invest in grandchildren’s education now, especially when your children have already started investing in SIPs for their children’s education etc. <\/span><\/p>\n

How is our mindset? We don\u2019t want to ask financial help from our married children. But taking care of grandchildren is our responsibility!! Thinking of own children throughout their Life and again thinking of grandchildren in Old age??<\/span><\/p>\n

Your lifespan is increasing. Your costs are rising. Think about it. Do not forget your own pleasure in thinking of others. Live life for yourself. It is rightly said that \u2026 Most Indians spend miserly all their lives and make the next generation rich.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is important that senior citizens live life to the fullest and explore the reasons behind their emotional investments. It is high time we understand the changing tastes and priorities of the younger generation and the rising costs faced by senior citizens. Ultimately, Indian senior citizens need to prioritise their own well-being and happiness, breaking free from the cycle of living economically to make the next generation rich.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the next generation is often disinterested in these properties as they prioritise convenience and mobility over large, inherited houses. \nThe younger generation, in contrast to their elders, prefers simplicity and minimalism. The next generation in India are witnessing a significant shift in their investment preferences also.<\/span>

Instead, they are exploring new avenues such as stocks, mutual funds, income plans, and even crypto-currency. This shift can be attributed to various factors including the desire for higher returns, ease of diversification, and the influence of global investment trends.<\/span>
\nHowever, senior citizens have retained their emotional attachment to traditional investments. They often see real estate and gold as tangible assets that provide a sense\u00a0of security, stability and also returns in the form of rent. These assets hold sentimental value and are associated with memories and legacy. Moreover, the older generation grew up in an era when these investments were the primary wealth-building tools, making it harder for them to break away from this mindset.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnother reason why senior citizens may not be living rich despite their accumulated wealth is the rising costs they face. Healthcare expenses, inflation, and a lack of proper retirement planning can quickly deplete their savings; this leaves them with limited resources to enjoy their later years. \nAdditionally, Indian parents tend to give away their years of saving to their children for reasons like education, or starting their own business, or any kind of emergency. The burden of supporting the younger generation weighs heavily on them. This further restricts the senior citizens\u2019 ability to indulge in the luxuries and experiences they deserve. It is important for seniors to strike a balance between supporting their children\u2019s wants and needs, and securing their own financial well-being.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prioritising well-being and happiness<\/strong><\/span>
\nIt is essential for senior citizens to prioritise their own well-being and happiness, rather\u00a0than solely focusing on accumulating wealth for the next generation. Living economically and denying oneself the pleasures of life may seem noble, but it can lead to regrets and missed opportunities.<\/span>
\nIndian senior citizens should embrace the changing times and explore new avenues for investment and enjoyment. They can consider diversifying their portfolios, including investments in financial instruments that offer a regular pension to continue the same lifestyle that they had earlier. Moreover, they should free themselves from the emotional attachment to traditional assets and instead focus on the well being for themselves. And by focusing on their hobbies, spending time with friends, and fulfilling their own wish lists, seniors can ensure a fulfilling and rich life for themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n
