He attended\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ananda College<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0in Colombo shown talent for drawing from young days had studied art under J.D.A. Perera and Stanley Abeysinghe and Matara Technical College.He had also learnt the art of dancing.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kMUhc117wMQ?si=mGShkqpI6GTcE79c\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Having been employed in the Government Film Corporation as a film editor but Titus Thottawatte\u2019s journey in life was changed having joined\u00a0Lester James Peries\u00a0and Willie Blake as editor to make the film \u00a0<i>Rekava<\/i>\u00a0in 1956. It was an attempt to make a truly\u00a0Sinhalese\u00a0movie in contrast with the Southern Indian copies then in trend. Thottawatte debuted as a director with\u00a0<i>Chandiya<\/i>\u00a0in 1965. The film starred\u00a0Gamini Fonseka\u00a0in the first villain\u2019s role of Sinhala Cinema.<a id=\"m_-3403571558731763044OWA51bdba2b-2884-7d12-9c6c-370cd6279558\" style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Titus_Thotawatte#cite_note-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Titus_Thotawatte%23cite_note-6&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1719315886443000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1Ylpa56VnhQBJOp104HwD2\">]<\/a>Other early films included\u00a0<i>Kauda Hari<\/i>\u00a0(1969),\u00a0<i>Thewatha<\/i>\u00a0(1970) and\u00a0<i>Haralaksaya<\/i>\u00a0(1971).<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In 1980,Thotawatte wrote and directed the children&#8217;s movie \u2018<i>Handaya<\/i><i>\u2019,<\/i><a id=\"m_-3403571558731763044OWA749b25b2-b2b0-6498-1d3e-be612ed4a556\" style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Titus_Thotawatte#cite_note-films.lk-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Titus_Thotawatte%23cite_note-films.lk-7&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1719315886443000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3Nek19HUPpHQJx8kghIYiJ\">\u2019<\/a>which was awarded Best Picture at the Sarasaviya Film Festival. In the 1980s and 1990s, he dubbed English cartoons such as\u00a0Bugs Bunny,\u00a0Doctor Dolittle\u00a0and\u00a0Top Cat\u00a0into Sinhala for Sinhalese audiences with the popular titles\u00a0<i>Ha Ha Hari Hawa<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Dosthara Honda Hitha<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Pissu Pusa<\/i>\u00a0respectively. He is the pioneer of dubbing programmes in Sri Lanka. These continue to air on Sinhala Television channels. Thotawatte created puppet characters like \u2018Eluson\u2019<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tKPqq0cx2OU?si=D5eLRFYqH_w2svt_\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In year 1965 Thotawatte stepped to direction of films successfully editing the film \u201cChandiya\u201d..In year 1969 had directed \u201cKawda Hari\u201d, \u2018Baduth Ekka Horu\u201d, then in 1970 \u2018Thevatha\u2019,in 1971 \u201cKara Lakshaya\u201d,then continued directing the films \u2018Sihasuna\u2019, \u2018Sagarika:, \u201cMangala\u2019, \u201cMaruwa Samaga Wasaya\u201d,in the following years from year 1972 Among the above the direction of the film \u201cHara Lakshaya\u201d is hailed by many.This is because as a female actress was deployed for a main role and also of the cameraman\u2019s work and the editing work.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In year 1979 his Thotawatte\u2019s journey was altered with his direction in the film \u201cHandaya\u201d which was liked to all elevations by children. After which Thotawatte stepped into Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation in year 1980 decade when he became sought after not for his directions but for substituting Sinhalese dialogues to many English films which was attracted to many Sri Lankans domiciled in overseas countries. too. Among them \u201c Dosthara Honda Hitha\u201d and \u201cGuliver\u201d were top drawer attractions. After these successful ventures Thotawatte made cartoon films as \u201cPissu Poosa\u201d, \u00a0also \u201cMalgudu Dawasa\u201d,\u201dSurangana Katha Karaliya\u201d,\u201dSituwara Montha Kristho\u201d,\u201dManuthapaya\u201d,\u201d<wbr \/>Yawahis Wu Minisa\u201d,\u201dOshin: many popular English Teli films were dubbed as Sinhalese were produced which became instant favourites among the Sri Lankans and those domiciled abroad.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Titus Thotawatte did not stop at dubbing exercises, but he did \u201cRasara\u201d creations which were conceptions developed the \u2018Muppet\u201d programs. He brought in the precise Sinhalese words from the \u2018Hela Hawla\u2019 which made his productions fruitful to attract viewers.When he dubbed Sinhalese words to cartoons he made sure that words were very impressive not harsh at all.
