Stray thoughts of a man at age 78 plus – By N.S.Venkataraman<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

\"Stray<\/p>\n

Sometimes, I\u00a0 feel unhappy about my parents \u00a0for giving birth to me\u00a0 and \u00a0bringing me\u00a0 into this world , which has \u00a0needlessly exposed me to the vagaries of the world. \u00a0\u00a0The world\u00a0\u00a0 would\u00a0 have lost nothing by myself not being born. In any case, \u00a0this\u00a0 has happened without my consent !!!\u00a0\u00a0 Was I born\u00a0\u00a0 solely for my parents to meet their needs ?<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, the parents \u00a0proudly introduced me to the world with sense of pride, satisfaction and achievement\u00a0 with \u00a0everyone around\u00a0 congratulating\u00a0 my \u00a0parents and applauding the efforts. At this time, I must have been lying in the cradle unaware\u00a0 of anything\u00a0 going around and not aware about the feast that everyone would enjoy in my name<\/span><\/p>\n

My parents enabled me\u00a0 to grow reasonably well , to the extent that they could do so , \u00a0based on their affordability.\u00a0 My parents showered their love and affection on me.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have been witnessing the world events , where I too have been part of it for over 78 years now.\u00a0\u00a0 In any case, it is clear to me now that I have been foolishly \u00a0\u00a0and thoughtlessly chasing a shadow, which is otherwise called as pleasure and wealth.\u00a0 Further, I have done the same act as my parents did and introduced children to the world.\u00a0 Of course, this has been done without\u00a0 the consent of my children !!!<\/span><\/p>\n

Whatever I have attained\u00a0 or not attained\u00a0 in my\u00a0\u00a0 78 years\u00a0 plus life\u00a0 so far, mean nothing to me now and\u00a0 I am realizing that\u00a0 human life\u00a0 is nothing more than a\u00a0 mere\u00a0 time passing exercise.\u00a0 The entire life process appears to be\u00a0 in vacuum.<\/span><\/p>\n

Soon, inevitably, my body would whither away and breathing would stop . Then, I would be remembered for a few days by friends and relatives and a little longer by my children\u00a0 and memory of me\u00a0 would\u00a0\u00a0 gradually\u00a0\u00a0 and steadily\u00a0 recede in their mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

While most of the dead persons would be forgotten soon, however, in the case of a few persons, they would be \u201c\u00a0 remembered and honoured \u201c\u00a0 with posthumous awards and erection of statues and monuments , as if those \u00a0dead persons would care for them or need them.\u00a0 Obviously,\u00a0 the dead persons who have gone nowhere would not be benefited in any way by such events \u00a0nor would have\u00a0\u00a0 any significance for them.<\/span><\/p>\n

In any case, life of others \u00a0who still\u00a0 live would go on\u00a0\u00a0 counting me out , as billions of people have been counted out in the past.\u00a0\u00a0 They would\u00a0 keep chasing\u00a0 the shadow as I have been doing for over 78 years now\u00a0\u00a0 and just like the billions of people in the world who have chased the shadow and then passed away over the last thousands of years.<\/span><\/p>\n

When death \u00a0would finally happen with no one really knowing the\u00a0\u00a0 destination, some religions say that dead person would go to hell or heaven. Some religions say that dead person would be born again and again and again , until he or she would lead blemish less life\u00a0 and \u201c merge\u00a0 himself \/herself with God \u201c. Who really know?<\/span><\/p>\n

All religions uniformly advocate\u00a0 that all humans should believe without any doubt or hesitation about the existence\u00a0 of God, wherever\u00a0 He is and whatever He is<\/span><\/p>\n

Answering a query as to where is God , some religions say that God is within \u00a0everyone and one has to reach the God within by prolonged and sustained meditation with total faith. The religions \u00a0term this as the consciousness to be realized within oneself.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is further said that the proof of realization of God within oneself is\u00a0 experiencing the \u00a0feeling of Ananda \u00a0( eternal bliss) \u00a0that \u00a0has to be felt to be understood.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hindu religion says that Brahman \u00a0\u00a0( God ) is not this nor that but this\u00a0 as well as that .\u00a0 Hindu religion further explains\u00a0 that the person in the process of experiencing mental feeling of Ananda would see nothing but Brahman out and out\u00a0 and find smooth and single minded path\u00a0 towards his goal of realizing God within .<\/span><\/p>\n

Where does all these \u00a0views leave \u00a0\u00a0the thought process of an ordinary \u00a0\u00a0and unrealized person like me?<\/span><\/p>\n

Bhagawan Sri. Ramana Maharshi , one of the\u00a0 greatest saints\u00a0 who lived in India in 20th<\/sup>\u00a0century , solved the puzzle by\u00a0 asking everyone\u00a0 to introspect on\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cWho am I \u201c,\u00a0 that would pave the way to realise the\u00a0 fruitlessness of life process, promote mental attribute of detachment and \u00a0\u00a0enable to move towards the state of \u00a0realizing God within oneself.<\/span><\/p>\n

I started introspection on \u00a0\u201cwho am I \u201c \u00a0and the result is\u00a0 these \u201cstray thoughts\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n
