The traditional Welcome was accorded to Travice as The Managing Director, and Bernard as the 1st Employee of the Hotel and as a Director. \u2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thuppahis.com\/2024\/10\/12\/nilaveli-beach-hotel-celebrated-its-50th-anniversary-with-bernard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thuppahis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/BERNARD-2.jpg?resize=500%2C226&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">From the 4th October It was a full house for three days.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong>SATURDAY 5th OCTOBER\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">10.00 am. onwards &#8211; Arrival of Invitees with a traditional Nilaveli Welcome.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">11.30.am\u20133.00 pm.\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Live music and island cocktails at the Beach Bar Restaurant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">\u201cBites\u201d and lunch\u00a0 served as required,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">7.30 pm\u20138.30 pm.\u00a0 \u00a0&#8211;\u00a0 Live music and cocktails at the Beach Bar Restaurant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">8.30pm\u201310.30 pm. &#8211; Gala Anniversary Beach Barbeque Dinner at the Beach Front.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">10.30 pm\u00a0 \u00a0&#8211; &#8211;\u00a0 Spectacular Fireworks Display.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong>SUNDAY 6th OCTOBER<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">8.00 am &#8211; Holy Mass and Thanksgiving Service at The Beach Restaurant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong>Prayers of the Faithful led by Mrs. Cristobel Ondaatjie.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">Vote of Thanks by Bernard VanCuylenburg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">9.30 AM TO 11.30 AM-Breakfast at the Main Restaurant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">From Mid-day onwards Invitees left at leisure to go their separate ways.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong><em>NOTES<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">There are two old Anthonians employed at Nilaveli Beach Hotel\u00a0<strong>\u2026. \u00a0J.R.Thambirajah<\/strong>, who is the Food and Beverages Manager and a Cook in the Kitchen called\u00a0<strong>Senaka<\/strong>\u00a0much junior to me in College and one was in the boarding with Shane and Kevin Balthazaar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">Present at the Anniversary celebrations was another old Anthonian who was with me in the Boarding from our days in the \u201cRainbow Cottage\u201d although slightly senior to me. He is\u00a0<strong>Mihindu Keerthiratna<\/strong>\u00a0who was the Architect for the Nilaveli Beach Hotel, and later for the Tangerine Beach Hotel, and the 5 Star Royal Palms Hotel in Kalutara.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">There is one ancient tale worth relating here. Whenever Mihundu Keerthiratna was seen on a Friday evening helping Mr.Brown with the Projector, we knew there was a film show to be screened in the College Hall. On one such evening we made our way to the Hall eagerly anticipating a good movie, which turned out to be a disaster! The Authorities in their wisdom had chosen a movie for us entertainment-starved Boarders which was akin to showing a red rag to a bull!! It was the movie\u00a0<strong><em>ALICE IN WONDERLAND<\/em><\/strong>. From the moment the title was shown on the silver screen I knew it would not be long before hell broke loose! Sure enough within a few seconds there were catcalls, whistles, hooting etc\u2026..etc\u2026.It got so bad that Reverend Father Bruno heavily armed with a dim torch, began parading the rows of seats attempting to catch the miscreants. After a short while he surrendered in defeat and gave up!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">Shortly after that, the film was stopped and we were asked to get back to our dormitories\u00a0 which was a welcome relief !\u00a0 It was one instance where \u201cThe Show must not go on !!\u201d\u2026\u2026..<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">Cheers! \u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026..
