A Fork as the Way to Heaven – By Michael Roberts<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Optimism and hope are two of the greatest qualities that a human being can possess. And those qualities can certainly have a long-lasting impact upon others.<\/span><\/p>\n

That is why when I saw\u00a0this stunningly beautiful story of hope<\/a>,\u00a0I was deeply moved. In this touching tale, a terminally ill woman\u00a0asks to speak with her pastor during her final days. What she asks of her spiritual advisor\u00a0seems just as expected, until she makes one absolutely bizarre request:\u00a0to be buried with a fork<\/strong>. When I hear the\u00a0reason why? It is definitely hard not to be moved to tears.<\/span><\/p>\n

This piece\u00a0has been circulating around the internet for several years.\u00a0People around the world have been\u00a0affected by this woman\u2019s story because its message is one of unwavering positivity and deep faith.<\/span><\/p>\n

There was a woman who had been diagnosed with a deadly illness and had been given three months to live. So, as she was getting her things \u201cin order,\u201d\u00a0she contacted her pastor and had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes.<\/span><\/p>\n

She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to be buried in. The woman also told her pastor that she wanted to be buried with her favorite Bible. Everything was in order and the pastor was preparing to leave when the woman suddenly remembered something very important to her.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s one more thing,\u201d she said excitedly.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d came the pastor\u2019s reply.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is very important,\u201d the woman continued. \u201cI want to be buried with a fork in my right hand.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The pastor stood looking at the woman not knowing quite what to say. \u201cThat surprises\u00a0you, doesn\u2019t it?\u201d the woman asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

The woman explained, \u201cIn all my years of attending church socials and potluck dinners,\u00a0I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say\u00a0\u201cYou can keep your fork.\u2019\u2019 It was my favourite part because I knew that something better was coming\u2026 like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie. Something wonderful, and with substance!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder, \u2018What\u2019s with the fork?\u2019 Then I want you to tell them:\u00a0\u2018Keep your fork\u2026 the best is yet to come.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The pastor\u2019s eyes were welled up with tears of joy as he hugged the woman goodbye. He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her death.\u00a0But he also knew that the\u00a0woman had a better grasp of Heaven than he did. She knew that something better was coming.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

At the funeral, people were walking by the woman\u2019s casket and they saw the pretty dress she was wearing and her favorite Bible and the fork placed in her right hand. Over and over, the pastor heard the question, \u2018What\u2019s with the fork?\u2019 And over and over he smiled.<\/span><\/p>\n

During his message, the pastor told the people of the conversation he had with the woman shortly before she died. He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to her. The pastor told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either. He was right.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, the next time you reach down for your fork, let it remind you, oh so gently, that\u00a0the best is yet to come\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n
