Judges pick the best pictures in the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards<\/span><\/h2>\n

A photo of a red squirrel seemingly stuck in a tree has taken out the top prize in this year’s Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards.<\/span><\/p>\n

The competition, which has been going since 2015, offers a place for nature photographers to show off the amusing snapshots they’ve captured while documenting the natural world.<\/span><\/p>\n

More than 9,000 entries were submitted to judges this year, the largest number of photos ever entered in the contest.<\/span><\/p>\n

There were only a few points between the top five entries, but in the end Milko Marchetti’s photo Stuck Squirrel was declared the overall winner.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I have taken many, many photographs of squirrels, in many situations over the years in Italy,” Marchetti said.<\/span><\/p>\n

“But this one struck me as really funny and such a strange position, because it is that exact moment when the squirrel is detaching its back legs from the trunk to enter its hide.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Whenever I show this image at the nature seminars at my local photography club, the audience always explodes with raucous laughter, so I had to enter it!”<\/span><\/p>\n
