SUNDAY CHOICE – A PARENT\u2019S RESPONSIBILITY<\/span> \u2013 By Charles Schokman<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

In a world that\u2019s becoming ever more materialistic, in a world where both parents and children, more and more, draw their values from what they see on their phones than from their family, what does it mean to actually bless your children?<\/span><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know a single parent who doesn\u2019t want their children to be blessed. In fact, my strong suspicion is that somehow, God\u2019s hardwired us as parents, to want to bless our children. We can\u2019t help ourselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

But we live in a world with a distorted view of blessing. The more affluent a society becomes, the more\u00a0\u201cblessing our kids\u201d<\/em>\u00a0seems to mean running them to every possible activity after school and on weekends, making sure they have all the latest gadgets and toys and designer fashions. In fact, when we don\u2019t do those things, we start feeling guilty.<\/span><\/p>\n

I see it happening a lot in the wealthy west and more and more, in so-called\u00a0\u201cdeveloping economies\u201d<\/em>\u00a0as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

The reality is though, that in doing all those things, we can be cursing our children by bringing up a spoilt generation. Now there\u2019s a scary thought!—-Berni Dymet<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This is what Jesus says:\u2014<\/strong>“Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”–Matthew 19:14.<\/span><\/p>\n
