THOUGHTS ON EVOLUTION OF HINDU RELIGION\u00a0 \u00a0AND IT\u2019S TIMELESS RELEVANCE – By N.S.Venkataraman\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

\"Hindu<\/p>\n

\"N.S.Venkataraman\"If there would be discussion on art of living , several persons would enthusiastically participate and listen to the views of the experts. On the other hand, if there would be\u00a0 discussion on art\u00a0 of dying, very few people would be\u00a0 \u00a0listening.\u00a0 \u00a0The ground reality is\u00a0 that no one\u00a0 likes the word death and would\u00a0 try to avoid any thought on the subject. When a close relative or friend would pass away, the mourners and loved ones\u00a0 would feel sad .However,\u00a0 they would think that\u00a0 their end would not happen anytime soon. Nevertheless, in sub conscious mind, the fear of death remains all the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Origin of religions :<\/span><\/strong>
\nFrom time immemorial, deep thinkers all over the world have been pondering over the process of death and\u00a0 \u00a0they have strived\u00a0 to get clarity\u00a0 about the purpose of life\u00a0 and\u00a0 as to from where one is born\u00a0 and\u00a0 where one would go after the end of life .\u00a0 Over the last several centuries , based on the thought process of such deep thinkers\u00a0 , several religions have been founded.<\/span><\/p>\n

While the founders of religions such as Christianity , Islam, Buddhism , Jainism are known and\u00a0 when\u00a0 the religion was founded is also broadly known, no one knows\u00a0 as to who founded Hindu religion and when was it founded.\u00a0 It is vaguely believed by ardent followers of Hindu religion that the Hindu religion must have been bestowed by God Himself.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is clear is that the basic philosophy\u00a0 and\u00a0 approach stated in Hindu religious scriptures and explanations contained in them\u00a0 have been evolved over several centuries\u00a0 by deep thinkers ( who are known as\u00a0 \u00a0saints and rishis in India ). They\u00a0 have been further\u00a0 fine tuned and\u00a0 explained by several\u00a0 deep thinkers\u00a0 generation after generation.\u00a0 \u00a0While it is universally agreed that\u00a0 the evolution\u00a0 of Hindu religion has taken place over several centuries ,\u00a0 some people think that it is still being fine tuned in tune with the science, technology and other development around the world from time to time .\u00a0 Bhagwan Sri Ramana Maharshi\u2019s\u00a0 call to everyone\u00a0 to introspect\u00a0 \u201cWho am I\u201d\u00a0 is\u00a0 \u00a0one of such fine tuning exercise.<\/span>
\nHowever, it is very clear\u00a0 that basic tenets of Hindu religion remain unchanged and uncorrupted\u00a0 over the last several centuries .<\/span><\/p>\n

Tenets of Hindu\u00a0 religion :<\/span><\/strong>
\nScriptures such\u00a0 as Vedas, Upanishad\u00a0 \u00a0explain the\u00a0 \u00a0basic tenets\u00a0 of Hindu religion\u00a0 very firmly and very clearly without any ambiguity. . Such tenets have been further elegantly explained\u00a0 in\u00a0 the two great epics\u00a0 Ramayana and Mahabharatha, which\u00a0 were written by deep thinkers with extraordinary\u00a0 understanding\u00a0 .<\/span><\/p>\n

These two great epics describe the human behaviour in different circumstances and\u00a0 highlight\u00a0 the essence of Hindu philosophy ,marked by thought process and actions of Lord Rama and the pronouncements of Lord Krishna in Gita during the time of the war between Pandavas and Kauravas.\u00a0 These two epics based on the basic concepts of Hindu religion lay guidelines for humans as to how one can lead life of bliss and eternal happiness.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the subsequent periods , the great Hindu saints such as Adi Sankara, Ramanuja , Madhvacharya and several others\u00a0 who have written in vernacular\u00a0 Indian languages such as Manickavasagar, Thirunavukkarasar\u00a0 \u00a0 in Tamil and quite a few others in other languages ,\u00a0 \u00a0have further stressed the\u00a0 \u00a0lofty principles enunciated in ancient Hindu scriptures\u00a0 and facilitated the\u00a0 understanding of the concepts even by uninitiated persons<\/span><\/p>\n

In recent memory ,\u00a0 great Hindu philosophers like Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa,\u00a0 Bhagwan Sri Ramana Maharshi, Kanchi Paamacharya\u00a0 have\u00a0 explained\u00a0 the basic concept\u00a0 in tune with the\u00a0 developing socio economic\u00a0 conditions and emerging aspirations of the common man.<\/span>
\nHindu religious scriptures discuss about the existence of\u00a0 Paramatma ( God, Almighty )\u00a0 and Jeevatma\u00a0 ( individual ) and stress that\u00a0 Jeevatma has to ultimately become one with Paramatma and that should be the ultimate\u00a0 goal of every individual.<\/span>
\nHindu religion\u00a0 stress that a life of detachment , goodwill for everyone, adhering to moral and ethical values\u00a0 and avoiding ego and hatred would inevitably lead one to meditate and realise the God within oneself. These attributes are termed\u00a0 \u201cSanatana Dharma\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

What has been consistently stressed over the last several centuries\u00a0 \u00a0by saints and deep thinkers is that one has to surrender himself\u00a0 \/ herself to Almighty\u00a0 ( God ) .\u00a0 God\u00a0 has to be realised\u00a0 \u00a0within one\u2019s mind\u00a0 and\u00a0 it can\u00a0 be a simple process of realisation\u00a0 within by an earnest seeker, who\u00a0 should have\u00a0 sustained interest to meditate and introspect about purpose of life. This\u00a0 would lead to\u00a0 mental bliss within oneself.\u00a0 Hindu religion explains this state elegantly as state of Ananda\u00a0 \u00a0( Mental Bliss) .<\/span><\/p>\n

Critical views<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hindu religion describe God by several names\u00a0 and forms\u00a0 associated with several stories and events. While some critics raise queries about this , those with deep understanding of Hindu philosophy can know\u00a0 clearly that Hindu religion does not suggest multiple Gods but only one Almighty.<\/span><\/p>\n

Obviously, God in multiple names have been mentioned in Hindu religion in\u00a0 response to the different types of mental make up of individuals , who can choose a particular name or names with different attributes to focus their mind on God and fervently pray and lead life of piety .\u00a0 If one would pray to Lord Rama, he would realise Lord Rama in his mind\u00a0 as the Almighty.\u00a0 Similarly, if\u00a0 one would pray\u00a0 to\u00a0 Lord Krishna , he would realise Lord Krishna In his mind as Almighty.\u00a0 This image is carved deep in the mind\u00a0 all the time permanently.<\/span>
\nThere are also a few\u00a0 critics who have questioned whether Ramayana and Mahabharatha and so many other mythological stories mentioned over several centuries could have really happened.,\u00a0 This question is unnecessary and would lead to nowhere.<\/span>
\nWhat is important\u00a0 are\u00a0 the ideas and morals explained in Hindu scriptures and two great epics\u00a0 which lay down the\u00a0 approach that everyone should adopt in life.\u00a0 Lord Rama and Lord Krishna\u00a0 are deemed to be Almighty\u00a0 by devotees\u00a0 and that is what is significant and important.<\/span><\/p>\n

Origin and end\u00a0 of human life :<\/span><\/strong>
\nA few religions state that at the end of life,\u00a0 one would go to hell or heaven depending on\u00a0 the\u00a0 actions during the life time. On the other hand, Hindu religion states about births and rebirths<\/span>
\nHindu religious concept centre around the concept of Karma\u00a0 ( actions of individuals ) and explains the process of birth and death by\u00a0 stressing that\u00a0 \u00a0 the\u00a0 multiple births\u00a0 that one would take based on one\u2019s deeds in life.\u00a0 \u00a0By leading a blemishless life with Sanatana Dharma as the focus . it can be ensured\u00a0 that\u00a0 the Jeevatma ( individual) would take no more births and merge with\u00a0 Paramatma ( God) <\/span>Will stand\u00a0 the test of time <\/span>Great concepts in the\u00a0 of Hindu\u00a0 scriptures evolved over several centuries has stood the test of time\u00a0 and will continue to stand the test of time <\/span><\/p>\n

They have satisfied billions of people around the world, who crave for understanding of the life process\u00a0 and the daunting question as to from where one would\u00a0 go after the end of life .<\/span>
\n\u00a0Billions of people have\u00a0 realised that such advocacies and\u00a0 thought process are the only and ultimate and well researched explanations for the life process.<\/span><\/p>\n
