Declared as the national tree in 1986, it holds great cultural, religious, and ecological significance in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"362\" data-end=\"389\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong data-start=\"365\" data-end=\"387\">Botanical Features<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"390\" data-end=\"699\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">The Ironwood tree is an evergreen species known for its dense, dark green leaves and fragrant white flowers with golden stamens. It is a slow-growing tree that can reach heights of up to 30 meters. The wood of the tree is extremely hard and durable, making it valuable for construction and furniture-making.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"701\" data-end=\"743\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong data-start=\"704\" data-end=\"741\">Cultural and Religious Importance<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"744\" data-end=\"1093\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">The Na tree is deeply connected to <strong data-start=\"779\" data-end=\"791\">Buddhism<\/strong> in Sri Lanka. It is believed to be the tree under which <strong data-start=\"848\" data-end=\"880\">Buddha gave his first sermon<\/strong> after attaining enlightenment. Many Buddhist temples have Na trees planted in their courtyards, symbolizing purity and wisdom. It provides shade, prevents soil erosion, and supports biodiversity. Various parts of the tree are used in <strong data-start=\"1311\" data-end=\"1345\">traditional Ayurvedic medicine<\/strong> for treating skin diseases, wounds, and digestive disorders.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1446\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong data-start=\"1413\" data-end=\"1444\">Conservation and Protection<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1447\" data-end=\"1705\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">As Sri Lanka\u2019s national tree, the Ironwood tree is protected by law, and cutting it down without permission is prohibited.
