Oh for the Good Old Days!<\/span><\/h2>\n

At 96 I am\u00a0privileged\u00a0to have gone through most of these changing scenes in life.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Many of you may have gone through it as well. Take time to Watch &\u00a0Enjoy.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

All the girls had ugly school uniforms<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

It took five minutes for the TV to warm up<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\"It<\/span><\/p>\n

Nearly everyone’s Mum was home when\u00a0<\/span>
\nthe kids got home from school<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Nearly<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Nobody owned a pure-bred dog\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Nobody<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

You’d reach into a muddy gutter for a penny<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\"You'd<\/span><\/p>\n

Your Mother wore nylons that came in two pieces\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Your<\/span><\/p>\n

All male teachers wore ties and female teachers had\u00a0<\/span>
\ntheir hair done every day and wore high heels\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"All<\/span><\/p>\n

You got your windscreen cleaned, oil checked and\u00a0<\/span>
\npetrol served, without asking, all for free, every time\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"You<\/span><\/p>\n

Mum cooked every night and nearly every meal was\u00a0<\/span>
\nmeat and 3 veg with a roast on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Mum<\/span><\/p>\n

They threatened to keep children back a year if they\u00a0<\/span>
\nfailed the school year …\u00a0 And they did!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"They<\/span><\/p>\n

When an FC Holden was everyone’s dream car\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"When<\/span><\/p>\n

No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were\u00a0<\/span>
\nalways in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"No<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles?<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Spinning<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Playing cricket with no adults to help the children with the rules of the game<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\"Playing<\/span><\/p>\n

Bottles came from the corner shop without safety caps and\u00a0<\/span>
\nhermetic seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Bottles<\/span><\/p>\n

And with all our progress, don’t you wish, just once, you could slip back in\u00a0<\/span>
\ntime and savour the slower pace, and share it with the children of\u00a0 today?<\/span><\/p>\n

\"And<\/span><\/p>\n

When being sent to the headmaster’s office was nothing\u00a0<\/span>
\ncompared to the fate that awaited you at home\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"When<\/span><\/p>\n

Basically we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn’t because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! But we survived because their love was greater than the threat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As well as summers filled with bike rides, cricket, Hula\u00a0 Hoops, skating and visits to the pool, and bonfire nights with REAL firecrackers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Didn’t that feel good, just to go back and say, ‘Yes, I remember that’?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Oh<\/span><\/p>\n

I am sharing this with you today because it ended with a Double Dare to pass it on.\u00a0 To remember what a Double Dare is, read on, and remember that the perfect age is somewhere between old enough to know better and too young to care.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\nwhen the milkman filled your billy.<\/span><\/p>\n

LPs & 45 RPM records.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"LPs<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

78 RPM records!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"78<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Adding Machines.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Adding<\/span><\/p>\n

Scalextric<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Scalextric\"<\/span><\/p>\n

Do You Remember\u00a0a Time When …\u00a0<\/span>
\nDecisions were made by going ‘Eeny-meeny-miney-moe’?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\n‘Race issue’ meant arguing about who ran the fastest?\u00a0<\/span>
\nCatching tadpoles could happily occupy an entire day?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Oh<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

It wasn’t odd to have two or three\u00a0 ‘Best\u00a0 Friends’?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Oh<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a shanghai?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Oh<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Playing war with pretend guns but “real” wooden swords.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Oh<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Cigarette cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Oh<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking drugs meant being given half of one of mum’s\u00a0<\/span>
\nBex tablets for a headache.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Oh<\/span><\/p>\n

Lighting a whole row of Tom Thumbs and throwing them\u00a0<\/span>
\nat your mate’s feet, was the ultimate weapon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you can remember most or all of these, then you have lived!!!!!!!\u00a0<\/span>
\nThose were the Days<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n
