Now however the Burghers consider Eurasians to also be Burghers!! Actually, many Burghers could more accurately be termed \u201cEurasians\u201d!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/thuppahis.com\/2022\/12\/20\/the-hermon-lineage-in-the-plantation-world-of-ceylon-lanka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-49618 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thuppahis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/HOCT_Dickie_Hermon-02.jpg?resize=768%2C492&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"elanka\" width=\"400\" height=\"341\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">My mother always told me to\u00a0be proud of my heritage and that I had the best of the east and west in me!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong>My grandfather,\u00a0Wilbraham Hermon,\u00a0 was the founder of a dynasty of Ceylon (Sri Lankan) planters, whose connections were so widespread that we were the single largest family group in the plantation Industry, encompassing by marriage such families (to name a few) as the Winter Family (my Mother\u2019s family) and the Emersleys,\u2019 Murrays,\u2019 Franklins,\u2019 \u2018Nicols,\u2019 ,Barnetts , Rollos,\u2019 Reiths,\u2019 Durrants,\u2019 Richardsons,\u2019 Fairweathers,\u2019 Olivers,\u2019 Roberts,\u2019,Van Der Poortens,\u2019 etc, etc.<\/strong>\u00a0I hope that I will be able to write an article one day on the Hermon Dynasty in the Plantations in Ceylon!! The only one still involved is Dan Seevaratnam (married to Pauline Hermon)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">I agree with you that I do not recall a Paynter\u2019s home in Kandy. The home in India in the foothills of the Himalayas, was also founded by the Paynter family and Ada Karunatilake\u2019s (nee HIll)\u00a0father was there .in India (the name of the place escapes me).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">I think that it is not quite accurate to say that all Eurasians were illegitimate. Some were born of parents not formally married.
