For anyone relocating overseas, there\u2019s a lot to consider \u2013 from job prospects to culture and healthcare. But for\u00a0families<\/a>\u00a0looking to make a move, safety and\u00a0education<\/a>\u00a0in a country are among the most important factors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Remitly<\/a>, an American money transfer service, has launched a new\u00a0immigration index<\/a>\u00a0that ranks 82 countries across 24 different categories,<\/strong>\u00a0from healthcare quality to economic strength to safety metrics.<\/span><\/p>\n

With an \u201cimpressive\u201d education system and \u201cincredibly low\u201d childcare costs,\u00a0Sri Lanka<\/a>\u00a0took the top spot as the world\u2019s most family-friendly country.<\/span><\/p>\n

The immigration index assessed the quality and accessibility of education in each nation, using a statistics score from Radboud University on the average years of schooling adults have completed and the expected years of schooling for children in each country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alongside the annual cost of childcare in each country, a family-friendly score was then calculated out of 100.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Lanka<\/a>\u00a0and its beaches, tea plantations and sacred rituals have long been celebrated for its welcoming people and family-friendly hotels.<\/span><\/p>\n

The island nation in south Asia scored 63 overall, with childcare costs of just $354.60 (\u00a3274) per annum.<\/span><\/p>\n

In second,\u00a0Sweden<\/a>\u2019s (52.6) high education score and \u201cmoderate\u201d childcare costs were closely followed by\u00a0Norway<\/a>\u00a0(51.2) in third.<\/span><\/p>\n

With education scores of 0.9 out of one,\u00a0New Zealand<\/a>\u00a0(50.9) and\u00a0Iceland<\/a>\u00a0(50.9) also made the top five family-friendly spots.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite annual childcare costs of $5,347.40 and $3,948.10 respectively,\u00a0Germany\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0Finland\u00a0<\/a>were praised for \u201chighly regarded\u201d education systems, scoring 50.8 and 50.3 as their total family scores.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rounding off the top 10,\u00a0Denmark\u00a0<\/a>(49.9),\u00a0Australia\u00a0<\/a>(49.7) and the\u00a0US<\/a>\u00a0(49.5) ranked for their \u201cexcellent\u201d education systems, but fell short for high childcare expenses between $6,218.30 and $16,439.40 per year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0UK<\/a>\u00a0did not make the list of family-friendly countries, but featured in 19th place in the index\u2019s top countries for immigrants to move to in 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n
