It is more than just a New Year celebration.it is a season of joy, togetherness, tradition, and sweet memories that last a lifetime. &#8220;A Childhood Avurudu&#8221; is a journey back to those carefree days, when time seemed to slow down and the world was painted in the bright colors of festivity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"578\" data-end=\"1055\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">As the month of April approached, excitement would build in the air. The days grew warmer, the trees bloomed with flowers, and the scent of delicious Avurudu sweets began to fill the home. In the village, preparations started early. Mothers and grandmothers would gather in the kitchen, laughing and chatting as they made <em data-start=\"900\" data-end=\"907\">kokis<\/em>, <em data-start=\"909\" data-end=\"916\">kavum<\/em>, <em data-start=\"918\" data-end=\"930\">mung kevum<\/em>, and <em data-start=\"936\" data-end=\"943\">aluwa<\/em>. As a child, sneaking a taste of these treats before the auspicious time was a mission of mischief and delight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1057\" data-end=\"1463\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">The best part of Avurudu was the sense of community. Everyone in the neighborhood was like extended family. Children ran around playing games like <em data-start=\"1204\" data-end=\"1216\">kana mutti<\/em>, <em data-start=\"1218\" data-end=\"1235\">porapol gaseema<\/em>, and <em data-start=\"1241\" data-end=\"1253\">kotta pora<\/em>, their laughter echoing through the air. The New Year rituals, such as lighting the hearth, taking herbal baths, and offering milk rice to the Sun God, were done with reverence\u2014but also with a sense of wonder.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1755\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">Receiving gifts from elders was another highlight. New clothes, crisp banknotes, and blessings were shared generously. The smell of fresh paint on the walls, the sight of freshly cleaned houses, and the sound of the <em data-start=\"1681\" data-end=\"1689\">rabana<\/em> being played by the aunties\u2014every detail became etched in memory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1757\" data-end=\"1961\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">Perhaps what made Avurudu so special in childhood was the simplicity.
