Family of four escapes house fire | Kellyville<\/span><\/h2>\n

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) says the escape of a family of four from a fire at Kellyville, in Sydney\u2019s north-west, last night emphasises the need for every household to form a home evacuation plan.<\/span><\/p>\n

FRNSW received a large number of Triple Zero (000) calls just after 7pm.<\/span><\/p>\n

When six fire trucks and 24 firefighters arrived at the Craigmore Drive home, they found it well ablaze, with flames venting through the roof.<\/span><\/p>\n

It took crews one hour to contain the fire and another to extinguish it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fire, which originated in the garage, was intensified when two vehicles caught alight.<\/span><\/p>\n

Half the home was destroyed and partially collapsed, making it uninhabitable.<\/span><\/p>\n

The family found its way to safety without injury.<\/span><\/p>\n

The cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n

FRNSW Superintendent, Adam Dewberry, said the family\u2019s near miss serves as a reminder to everyone to form a fire escape plan, especially as winter approaches.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNow is the time to gather your household and discuss the best ways to evacuate in the event of a fire,\u201d Supt Dewberry said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDetermine the quickest and safest route to safety and identify a secondary exit in case the first is cut off by fire.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDeadlocks are great for your home\u2019s security but consider would they hamper your safe exit if a fire became uncontrollable?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEnsure your home is fitted with at least one working smoke alarm on every level and \u2018Be Fire Safe\u2019 as winter approaches.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

FRNSW is urging the public to test their smoke alarms on June 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the second annual \u2018Smoke Alarm Action Day\u2019 when firefighters remind the community to test their alarms on the first day of winter,\u201d Supt Dewberry said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you don\u2019t have an alarm, get one installed as soon as you can. A working smoke alarm can provide you and your loved ones with vital seconds to get out safely.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you have one fitted, press the \u2018test\u2019 button to make sure it works,\u201d he added, \u201cIf it\u2019s older than 10 years or it\u2019s faded to a mustard-yellow colour, it\u2019s beyond its use-by date and needs replacement.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe good news is you can jump onto the FRNSW webpage and book a Home Fire Safety Visit.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFirefighters will come to your home, carry out a fire assessment and provide you with crucial advice to prevent a fire.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ll even install a smoke alarm free of charge, if you\u2019re unable to do it yourself.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
