“He will hold me fast” is a phrase, often found in hymns and scripture, that\u00a0expresses the idea of God’s unwavering faithfulness and security in the face of life’s challenges and doubts.\u00a0It signifies that God’s love and power will sustain and protect believers, preventing them from falling away from their faith.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A Song of Assurance:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe Will Hold Me Fast\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe Will Hold Me Fast\u201d reflects on the wonderful truth that God watches over and sustains our faith. Scripture is clear about this saving grace:<\/span><\/p>\n

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain-Hebrews 6:19<\/span><\/p>\n

To him who is able\u00a0to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence\u00a0without fault\u00a0and with great joy\u2014to the only God\u00a0our Saviour be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore!\u00a0Amen.-Jude1:24-25<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe Will Hold Me Fast\u201d proclaims a hope that surpasses our weakness.<\/span><\/p>\n

With our weaknesses continually before us, it\u2019s easy to believe that one day they will certainly nullify our faith. We need to drill it into our hearts and minds that God is the one who sustains our faith. Habershon repeats the phrase \u201cChrist\/He will hold me fast\u201d over 18 times to emphasize this truth and lodge it into the deepest chambers of our hearts. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When we settle our souls on the truth that Christ alone keeps us, we believe the doctrine of justification by faith alone more fully. It\u2019s one thing to agree with Paul that God saves us, not our works (Eph. 2:6<\/a>). It\u2019s another thing to believe it\u2019s also God who\u00a0keeps\u00a0<\/em>us. If we don\u2019t do the saving in the first place, why would we think we do the keeping?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The bedrock of our eternal safety is Christ\u2019s costly sacrifice. As the logic goes in\u00a0Romans 8:32<\/a>, how will God let us go if he paid for us with his own blood? \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For anyone who is struggling to hold onto their faith or endure trials, this song can be used today as it was originally: to encourage the believer with assurance that what God starts, He finishes. It\u2019s not our salvation to hold onto. We don\u2019t have to live in fear of losing it. There is only One strong enough to keep it. This is God\u2019s salvation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Those He saves are His delight, Christ will hold me fast.<\/span><\/p>\n
