ARE HUMANS SUPERIOR TO OTHER CREATURES ? – By N.S.Venkataraman<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Most of\u00a0 \u00a0humans\u00a0 live \u00a0life long thinking that they have some purpose in life \u00a0They assume that they need to look for power, fame \u00a0and prestige and earnings . \u00a0\u00a0In short, \u00a0they aspire\u00a0 to be praised., treating such praise as indication of successful life. However, the ageing process dispels\u00a0 such notions\u00a0 steadily and conclusively.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the\u00a0 \u00a0age of 80 , \u00a0with life almost spent and looking back, it is clear \u00a0to me now that most\u00a0 of my past activities \u00a0\u00a0over several decades which have been \u00a0marked by achievements, failures , praise\u00a0\u00a0 or \u00a0humiliation ,\u00a0 really amount to nothing. \u00a0\u00a0At this stage\u00a0 of life, I tend to think that\u00a0 they should \u00a0be termed as events without substance and conclude that life is essentially a time passing exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n

A few of those who grew up with me\u00a0 are no more and amongst those who still survive with me , a few\u00a0 of them \u00a0have earned much more wealth \u00a0than me and occupied\u00a0 high\u00a0 positions and enjoyed \u00a0reputation in society,\u00a0 \u00a0But they too\u00a0\u00a0 confess that they \u00a0have similar feelings that \u00a0whatever they have\u201d achieved\u201d in life have really led them nowhere.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Pattinathar, a great \u00a0\u00a0Tamil philosopher and poet \u00a0pointed out \u00a0that the human life does not lead to\u00a0 anywhere . He said\u00a0\u00a0 \u201c\u00a0Even an eyeless needle won’t accompany you in your final journey\u201d.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Sixth sense !<\/u>\u00a0:<\/u><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Humans\u00a0 think that they are different from \u00a0other creatures \u00a0like animals , birds\u00a0 etc. \u00a0\u00a0Humans\u00a0 \u00a0assume \u00a0that they are superior to them, \u00a0as humans have what is called as sixth sense,\u00a0 assuming \u00a0\u00a0that \u00a0animals and other creatures do not have such sixth sense .\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The fact is that while humans may have\u00a0 what is called as sixth sense, different animals and creatures also have extra sense which humans do not have,.\u00a0 Several instances of superior sense \u00a0of other creatures can be \u00a0\u00a0readily pointed out such as sniffer dogs, also known as detection dogs, which \u00a0locate specific scents and alert their handlers to their presence . Crows always gather and eat together\u00a0just as a matter of routine , which humans rarely do\u00a0 with such spontaneity all the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Limited life span\u00a0 :<\/u><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Like humans, animals and other creatures also live and die after stipulated period. \u00a0\u00a0Humans\u00a0 die at different times due to different reasons such as\u00a0 ageing , sickness , accidents , war and violence .\u00a0 Animals and other creatures also \u00a0perish due to similar reasons..<\/span><\/p>\n

The event of death is no different\u00a0 between humans and other creatures.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just like humans, animals\u00a0 and other creatures also want to live as long as possible and event of death is\u00a0\u00a0 feared and not desired\u00a0 , though death is natural and inevitable , whether one is human or animal or other creature.<\/span><\/p>\n

Know no better<\/u>\u00a0:<\/u><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Neither the humans nor the animals and other creatures know \u00a0about the origin of life and where they would go after death with \u00a0certainty.\u00a0 While humans have\u00a0 \u00a0developed theories \u00a0and belief about origin and\u00a0 end of life with various postulates\u00a0 regarding\u00a0 hell , heaven, rebirth, fate \u00a0etc., animals may not have such thought process .\u00a0 But , this really does not make any difference , as no one really\u00a0 know\u00a0 what life is all about with any level of convincing certainty\u00a0 and clarity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the years, technologies\u00a0 have \u00a0been developed in\u00a0 spectacular manner for creating test tube babies as well as \u00a0artificial animals and creatures by cloning process. Robots have been developed that can mimicry the human and animal activity.\u00a0 Now, artificial intelligence is threatening to substitute human mind and brain power.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, these technology developments have not effectively challenged the concept of God , though they cause doubts and uncertainty \u00a0about the historical faith and assumptions.\u00a0 They\u00a0 now threaten\u00a0 to uproot the postulates and assumptions about origin and end of life, that have been prevalent over the last several centuries.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, humans have developed\u00a0 technologies and facilities\u00a0 to a remarkable level over several centuries. Obviously, animals cannot so this. But, still final end game of life \u00a0is the same.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just like humans\u00a0 grieve when someone known to them die, animals and creatures are also known to grieve when some among them die. Such scenario has been repeatedly seen\u00a0 by careful observers.<\/span><\/p>\n

While animals and creatures cannot speak like humans, they always react when\u00a0 facing specific situations , obviously implying that they too have thought process and feelings of fear , love , physical passion and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Survival of the fittest<\/u>\u00a0:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

With regard to life process, the aspiration of humans , animals and other creatures are not \u00a0different and are \u00a0similar with regard to survival<\/span><\/p>\n

.Humans compete with each other ,\u00a0 try to outdo each other in jobs and other activities and \u00a0indulge in war and conflict to overcome other humans.\u00a0 Many humans die\u00a0\u00a0 during war and conflict and due to murders and violence. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the same way, animals \u00a0\u00a0and other creatures too \u00a0quarrel and fight with each other.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Essentially\u00a0 the life process is survival of the fittest for all, whether humans or other creations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Animals and creatures can be classified as passive animals termed as herbivorous\u00a0 and wild animals termed as carnivorous . Similarly , among humans, there are vegetarians and non vegetarians. While wild animals\u00a0 kill other weak animals and creatures to eat , the non vegetarian humans also kill weak animals and creatures such\u00a0 as\u00a0 chicks, goat , pig, cow , deer , fish and so on\u00a0 and cherish eating them.\u00a0 What difference between them ?<\/span><\/p>\n

Great equaliser<\/u>\u00a0:<\/u><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Just like animals and other creatures, humans too \u201c go nowhere\u201d after inevitable death.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ultimately, it is seen that event of death\u00a0 is an equaliser between humans as well as between humans , animals and others.<\/span><\/p>\n

When humans pass away, generally \u201cceremonial send off\u201d are given.\u00a0 However \u00a0. dead animals and other creatures do not have this \u201cprivilege\u201d of\u00a0 \u201cceremonial send off \u201c.\u00a0 In any case, the dead entities \u00a0\u00a0get nothing out of this . In such case, what difference between animal, humans and other creatures ?<\/span><\/p>\n

Whatever may be the memorials and statutes\u00a0 built for dead persons , it is only an activity that help the humans to satisfy their own ego , to provide them a sense of comfort\u00a0 about the significance\u00a0 of human life.. Do the memorials and statues have any significance for the dead persons who have gone nowhere ?\u00a0 Certainly not.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0This is nothing but activity \u00a0in vacuum .\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The true fact is \u00a0that the end game is the same for humans, animals and other creatures.<\/span><\/p>\n
