It\u2019s Springtime again, when grand old Dame Melbourne sheds her winter woollies and gets ready to celebrate the warmer weather. And, boy, it\u2019s been a cold Melbourne winter this year. Brrr!<\/span><\/p>\n

Melbourne, the event capital of Australia in Spring is home to big ticket items such as the AFL Grand Final, Royal Melbourne Show, Fashion Week, Spring Racing Carnival, Melbourne Fringe Festivals, and the Melbourne Cup. There is something for everybody.<\/span>
\n
\nNot among the least of them is the 35th 2017 Victorian Seniors Festival which will take place throughout October. At last year\u2019s Festival, more than 2500 free or low cost events took place and over 150 000 older Victorians and their friends and families took part. That is because Australia considers its seniors an integral part of its society. There are not many countries in the world that dedicate a week of their social calendar to Seniors. <\/span><\/p>\n

One of the biggest drawcards of SENIORS WEEK is the free travel on public transport for Seniors from Sunday 8 to Sunday 15 October.<\/span><\/p>\n

Get to one of your favourite places or rediscover your surroundings. There are hundreds of destinations around Melbourne and regional Victoria for you to visit and explore. The Festival Hub is the Melbourne Town Hall and Federation Square precinct where you can participate in the major activities organised for seniors on Celebration Day, Sunday 8 October.<\/span><\/p>\n

For details on how to travel, where you can go, travelling in regional Victoria, watching events and participating in activities, go to www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au<\/span><\/p>\n

So, seniors, why not make the most of it. You are being invited to \u2018get up and go\u2019. Don\u2019t languish in taking advantage of the opportunities offered to you here in Victoria as physical, mental and social activity translate to improved health.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year \u2018grab the bull by its horns\u2019 and get together with your family and friends to \u2018live\u2019 it in October. Hundreds or artistes, entertainers and educators are giving up their time to put on shows for you. Don\u2019t let this Carnival of Learning, entertainment and free activities organised for you pass you by for another year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pick up a program at your local library, Neighbourhood House or a Coles supermarket or visit www.cotavic.org.au.<\/span><\/p>\n
