Thomas\u2019 College Old Boys\u2019 Association of NSW &amp; ACT Celebrates \u2018The Feast of the Transfiguration\u2019 for the first time at St Andrew\u2019s Cathedral Sydney<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">On Saturday 5th August 2017 evening over a hundred &amp; Fifty Thomian families, friends and well-wishers gathered within the glorious St. Andrew\u2019s Cathedral, Sydney, for\u00a0the inaugural service to celebrate the \u2018Feast of the Transfiguration\u2019 And \u2026 he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering (Luke 9:28-29)<\/span><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20195\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/2.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20196\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/2.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The S. Thomas\u2019 College Chapel is celebrating its ninetieth year, coinciding with one hundred years of the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">College at Mt Lavinia where it was first established one hundred and sixty six years ago at Mutuwal in Sri\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Lanka.<\/span><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/3.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20198\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/3.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<td>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/4.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20199\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/4.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Although the naming of the College Chapel remain a mystery it is appropriate that S. Thomas\u2019 seek to \u2018Transform\u2019 the lives of students. The chapel is famous for its choir and the enthralling mural capturing the scene of our Lord\u2019s transfiguration painted by David Paynter nearly fifty years ago. Celebrating this service at the Cathedral added much significance and made the occasion very special and holy as it signifies the extraordinary measures God has blessed S. Thomas\u2019 College as a unique educational institution in Sri Lanka.<\/span><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/6.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20201\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/6.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/5.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20200\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/5.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The STC OBA committee\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">deemed it fitting that this\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">celebration service be\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">held in Sydney to<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">commemorate these\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">milestones. Early in the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">year a request was made\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">to the Dean of Sydney<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Rev Kanishka Raffel, to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">hold the service at the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Cathedral, which was\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">kindly accepted. With his\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">advice and blessings the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">traditional order of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">service which includes collects and Bible readings were arranged.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The hymns were selected by David Sansoni who conducted the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">choir as well. The Director of Music of the Cathedral, Ross Cobb,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">generously gave of his time and talent, and steered the music\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">component of the service from the organ loft. The sound of the organ\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">was a glorious accompaniment to the choir comprising faithful\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u2018Thomian\u2019 \u201cvoices\u201d, significantly enlarged by the cheerful participation\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">of 24 Ladies and Gentlemen from the choir of St. Paul\u2019s Castle Hill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/7.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20202\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/7.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"407\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Rev Kanishka gave the message based on God\u2019s voice from heaven \u2018This\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">is my son, the chosen One. Listen to him\u201d Luke 9:35.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The word went out far and wide. A few old Thomians from\u00a0 Melbourne\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">led by Roger Aldons made the trip to Sydney for the occasion missing\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">the Victorian OBA service of the Transfiguration on the same day, which\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">has been on their calendar for decades.<\/span><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/8.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20203\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/8.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/9.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20204\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/9.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">An honored guest was Eddie Appathurai, Vice President of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">the OBA in Sri Lanka who was\u00a0 visiting Sydney and ensured\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">he would be present on the day.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">STC OBA is grateful to all who graced the occasion to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">praise God and celebrate this special occasion.
