Actually, it was my wife\u2019s idea. \u2028\u201cYou know you love her\u201d she told me one day, out of the blue. \u2028\u201cLife\u2019s short, you should give her more of your time. \u201cBut I love you, dear.\u201d I replied.\u2028 \u201cI know, but you love her too\u2026\u201d she said. \u2028This other woman my wife wanted me to see was my mother. \u2028She has been a widow for a few years now, and because of work and my kids, I didn\u2019t get to see her very often. \u2028I called my mother that night and asked her to join me for a movie and some dinner.\u2028 \u201cDid something happen? Is anything wrong?\u201d she asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">You see, my mother belongs to the generation that thinks that any phone call after 7pm can only mean bad news\u2026\u2028\u201cI just wanted to invite you for dinner and a movie, just the two of us. What do you think?\u201d \u2028After a few second, my mother simply said: \u201cI\u2019d like that\u2026\u201d\u2028I drove over the next evening after work to pick her up; it was a Friday night, and I had a feeling I haven\u2019t had in a long time \u2013 the kind of nervousness you get before a first date. When I got there, I saw that my mother was also excited and nervous.\u2028 She was waiting outside, wearing her beautiful old coat, her hair all done up and had the dress she wore for her and dad\u2019s last anniversary on. \u2028Her face was lit up with the smile of an angel.\u2028 \u201cI told my girlfriends I\u2019m going on a date with my son tonight and they were very excited for me!\u201d She told me when she got in the car.\u2028 The restaurant we went to was not the most fancy, but the staff was incredibly friendly.\u2028 My mother held my arm and looked like the first lady! \u2028We sat down, and she asked me to read her the menu (\u201cMy eyes are not what they used to be\u201d she said). Half way through, I looked up and saw she was staring at me with a nostalgic smile on her face. \u2028\u201cWhen you were a child, I was the one who read you the menu.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201cThen allow me to return the favor, mom\u201d I said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">We had a lovely conversation, not about anything in particular, just sharing what\u2019s going on in our lives and eventually we spoke so much that the conversation just trailed off\u2026\u2028\u201cI\u2019ll go out with you again, but only if you let me pay next time!\u201d my mother said.\u2028 When I dropped her at her house, I felt genuinely sorry to see her leave. \u2028I hugged and kissed her and told her how much I loved her. \u2028When I came home later that night, my wife asked how the date went. \u2028\u201cIt was wonderful, thank you for suggesting it!\u201d \u2028I looked at my wife and added \u201cMuch better than I could ever imagine\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">A few days later, my dear mother passed away from a heart attack. \u2028It was very quick and there was nothing anyone could do.\u2028 A short time afterwards, I got a letter from the restaurant we went to that last time.\u2028 The letter read:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u2028\u201c<strong>I\u2019m quite sure that I won\u2019t be able to make it to our next date, so you and your wife can enjoy each other\u2019s company like I did with you. I paid for your next meal here in full and I want you to know just how much that night meant to me!\u2028 I love you,\u2028\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><strong>Mother<\/strong>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">At that moment, I understood just how important it is that we let our loved ones know that we love them, and make sure we make time for them \u2013 we don\u2019t know how long we\u2019ll have them in our lives.\u2028 <u>Nothing is more important in this life than family!<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">If your mother is still alive \u2013 appreciate her. \u2028If she isn\u2019t \u2013 remember her.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Genesis 28:14 Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">2 Kings 4:30 Then the mother of the child said, \u201cAs the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.\u201d So he arose and followed her. <em>(We must never give up our children!)<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Proverbs 31:15-17 She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls. \u00a0She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. \u00a0She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. <em>(Its no secret that mothers are strong!
