Multi-Faith Memorial Service and Peace Vigil in Canberra<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A well-attended multi-faith memorial service and peace vigil was held at St Christopher\u2019s Cathedral in Forrest, Canberra on 23 April 2019 at 7.00 pm to honour and pray for the victims, the injured\u00a0and their families from the Easter Sunday\u00a0explosions in Sri Lanka.<\/span><\/p>\n


\nThe attendees\u00a0were welcomed by Fr. Daniel Benedetti and a message from\u00a0the Archbishop Christopher Prowse was read in\u00a0Sinhala , Tamil and English. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Members of the\u00a0clergy representing the\u00a0Buddhist, Hindu, Catholic, Christian and Islam faiths the main religions of Sri Lanka delivered the prayers and blessings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n


\nThe High Commissioner Skandakumar in a brief\u00a0 and solemn address thanked the Sri Lankan community for the manner in which they had all come together to express their grief and condolences and join in prayer to pay respect to those who had died in the explosions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He acknowledged with gratitude the presence of His Excellency the Governor-General and the wider Australian Community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n


\nThe Governor- General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove, Ambassadors, Senators\u00a0 and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade , and a cross section of Australians made up the gathering that exceeded 500 in numbers.\u00a0 Earlier in the afternoon, The Governor-General\u00a0signed the\u00a0condolences\u00a0book opened at\u00a0the Sri Lanka High Commission as the first visitor.<\/span><\/p>\n


\nIn a peace vigil, Sri Lankans and Australians, lit candles\u00a0at the end of the service.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span>The event was jointly organised by the Sri Lankan Community and the Sri Lanka\u00a0High Commission.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
