The annual cricket game between\u00a0Sri Lanka Lions Sports Club<\/strong>\u00a0&\u00a0Instant Cricketers<\/strong>\u00a0for the \u201cNon Benders\u201d shield was played on\u00a0Sunday 10th<\/sup>\u00a0of November\u00a0 at\u00a0 Ollie Webb Reserve, Parramatta, NSW.<\/span><\/p>\n

The game was played under the proposed IPL 2020 changes as widely speculated in the recent sports news section in the media. Ie a squad of 14 were declared as a team instead of\u00a0the\u00a0usual 11,\u00a0at the beginning of the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, special rules of 36 overs per team, maximum of only six (6) overs per bowler and\u00a0<\/span>a Maximum of 30 runs per batsmen were enforced.<\/span><\/p>\n

The teams were led by\u00a0two\u00a0well known\u00a0 Sri Lankan personalities\u00a0in NSW\u00a0namely\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prasanna \u201cKari\u201d Kariyawasam &\u00a0Duke \u201cSuren\u201d Ramachandran<\/span><\/p>\n

The players from the two declared squads were old boys of\u00a0a\u00a0very wide range of schools in Sri Lanka.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Instant cricketers in their allocated 36 overs managed to get only 153 for the loss of 9 wickets\u00a0.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Winning team captain Prasannna Kariyawasam magnanimously requested the regular captain Gamini Jayawardena\u00a0( who was injured before the game)\u00a0 to\u00a0 accept the \u201cNon Benders Shield\u201d on behalf of his team from the representative of the previous holders of the shield \u201cThe instant cricketers\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

In conclusion, the hard work put in by both by Prassanna Kariyawasam & Jerome Gasperson to ensure that this social game\u00a0was played in such a \u201cfriendly\u201d atmosphere was not lost amongst the players from both sides and they unanimously echoed the sentiment and wished for this fixture to continue for many more years to come.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
