I really cannot think of too many people who do not know this song, and I loved to sing it myself, as a boy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0I have to thank both Keith Bennett &amp; Harry de Sayrah, two fine Gentlemen, who keep sending out these &#8220;Stories&#8221; for me to introduce on eLanka. I simply add a relevant song into the picture, hoping that they will be happy with the fact that, as folk read their stories, they will also have what I consider to be the ideal musical background.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Without any further ado, I now give to you, a story about Rudolph, which also is true. eLanka wishes EVERYONE,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0&#8220;THE COMPLIMENTS OF THE SEASON&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-29836 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Desmond-Kelly-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"178\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">Desmond Kelly.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">(Editor-in-Chief)\u00a0 eLanka.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #800000;\"><b>The True Story of Rudolph<\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\"><strong>A man named Bob May, depressed and brokenhearted, stared out his drafty apartment window into the chilling December night.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">His 4-year-old daughter Barbara sat on his lap quietly sobbing. Bob&#8217;s wife, Evelyn, was dying of cancer.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">Little Barbara couldn&#8217;t understand why her mommy could never come home. Barbara looked up into her dad&#8217;s eyes and asked, &#8220;Why isn&#8217;t Mommy just like everybody else&#8217;s Mommy?&#8221; Bob&#8217;s jaw tightened and his eyes welled with tears. Her question brought waves of grief, but also of anger. It had been the story of Bob&#8217;s life. Life always had to be different for Bob.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">Small when he was a kid, Bob was often bullied by other boys. He was too little at the time to compete in sports. He was often called names he&#8217;d rather not remember.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">From childhood, Bob was different and never seemed to fit in. Bob did complete college, married his loving wife and was grateful to get his job as a copywriter at Montgomery<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">Ward during the Great Depression. Then he was blessed with his little girl. But it was all short-lived. Evelyn&#8217;s bout\u00a0with cancer stripped them of all their savings and now Bob and his daughter were forced to live in a two-room apartment in the Chicago slums.\u00a0 Evelyn died just days before Christmas in 1938.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">Bob struggled to give hope to his child, for whom he couldn&#8217;t even afford to buy a Christmas gift. But if he couldn&#8217;t buy a gift, he was determined to make one &#8211; a<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">storybook! Bob had created an animal character in his own mind and told the animal&#8217;s story to little Barbara to give<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">her comfort and hope.\u00a0 Again and again Bob told the story,\u00a0embellishing it more with each telling.\u00a0 Who was the\u00a0character? What was the story all about? The story Bob May created was his own autobiography in fable form. The<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">Character he created was a misfit outcast like he was.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">The name of the character? A little reindeer named Rudolph, with a big shiny nose. Bob finished the book just in time to give it to his little girl on Christmas Day. But the story doesn&#8217;t end there.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">The general manager of Montgomery Ward caught wind of the little storybook and offered Bob May a nominal fee to purchase the rights to print the book. Wards went on to<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">Print, &#8220;Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer\u00a0&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0and distribute it to children visiting Santa Claus in their stores.\u00a0 By 1946 Wards had printed and distributed more than six million copies of Rudolph. That same year, a major publisher wanted to purchase the rights from Wards to print an updated version of the book.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">In an unprecedented gesture of kindness, the CEO of Wards returned all rights back to Bob May. The book became a best seller. Many toy and marketing deals followed and Bob May, now remarried with a growing family, became wealthy from the story he created to<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">comfort his grieving daughter. But the story doesn&#8217;t end\u00a0there either.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">Bob&#8217;s brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, made a song adaptation to Rudolph.\u00a0 Though the song was turned down by such popular vocalists as Bing Crosby and DinahShore , it was recorded by the singing cowboy, Gene Autry. &#8220;Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer&#8221; was released in 1949 and became a phenomenal success, selling more records than any other Christmas song, with the exception of &#8220;White Christmas.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #de124f;\">The gift of love that Bob May created for his daughter so long ago kept on returning back to bless him again and again.
