The author of this<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40902 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Padeniya-temple-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"377\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The historic roofing on a building at Padeniya temple &#8211; much like shingles of a later time<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">newsletter continues with a daily regimen which seeks to cope with the ravages of age, inclusive of a reduction in mobility and, overall, is holding on if not \u201cholding his own!\u201d We recently had the son (and spouse) of a first cousin of yours truly, born and raised in Canada, make his first trip to Sri Lanka, spending time with us and it provided us with the opportunity of going down<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #ff00ff;\">For January, as in past months, we\u2019ll continue our<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #ff00ff;\">\u201cSurprise Basket of HPH goodies,\u201d which appears to delight our guests as they take their leave of us!<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #ff00ff;\">Acknowledgements of HPH\u2019s Excellence<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #ff00ff;\">\u25a0 Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #ff00ff;\">\u25a0 Rated as Best Home Stay in Sri Lanka<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #ff00ff;\">\u25a0 Recommended by Bradt Travel Guide for Sri Lanka<img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40903\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/garden-below.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"171\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000000;\">HPH from the garden below<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">memory lane to fill them in on family history etc. That\u2019s a task that falls to us increasingly often as we prove to be survivors of a dwindling generation!<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">Our meagre work force continues to cope with the immediate tasks at hand and a significant part of their efforts has been directed at general maintenance of the vanilla patch and preventing the wild boar and porcupines doing more damage to that sensitive crop, with more success than failure fortunately.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">The monkey menace is a different kettle of fish with our little patch being seen as a corner of heaven in a devastated landscape by the simians. However, our battle against their intrusions will continue unabated since we have little other choice!<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">The weather, as in most parts of the world, continues unpredictable, though we\u2019ve been spared the cloudbursts<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40904 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Praying-mantis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"222\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000000;\">Praying mantis<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">that have hit so many parts of Sri Lanka with devastating effect.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 24px; color: #000080;\">Biso\u2019s ultra-energetic grandson \u2013 nickname \u201cSudha\u201d \u2013 continues to provide us with a computer consultancy service restricted only by his lack of fluency in English. However, what he lacks in language fluency he almost makes up for in great enthusiasm. Even a part of his family\u2019s life story with his mother and grandmother as participants would qualify as a front-runner in the \u201cfact is stranger than fiction\u201d stakes.
