AN INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST 2020<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Faith and Assurance<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"faith\"<\/p>\n

Now\u00a0faith\u00a0is\u00a0the assurance\u00a0of what we hope for and the certainty\u00a0of what\u00a0we do not see. Hebrews 11:1<\/span><\/p>\n

Want results? Get faith. It\u2019s that simple. It\u2019s also that powerful. But we have to remember a few things, and one is that faith builds upon faith.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

That is, for faith to grow, it must be exercised, and we have to be faithful first in small things.\u00a0We need positive internal dialogue (or \u201cself-talk\u201d).\u00a0We have to think the best.<\/span><\/p>\n

And we need to pray. It helps to pray with\u00a0specificity.\u00a0<\/em>Envision the end result and pray for all aspects \u2014 the details \u2014 of what you seek. Don\u2019t just glance over matters. Don\u2019t just throw off prayers. Pray from the heart for every aspect until you have a tranquil feeling. The more we pray, the more God answers, and the more He answers what seem like those little prayers \u2014 those prayers about small matters in life, those requests for everyday assistance, those constant supplications about our jobs and children and even a traffic light or cooking dinner \u2014 the more our faith is increased.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is how faith works and builds and how healing begins.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSmall\u201d miracles grow into larger ones.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

We roll a little ball down a mountain and it grows into a bigger ball \u2014 until we can move the mountain itself.<\/span><\/p>\n

Didn\u2019t Christ say that? It wasn\u2019t hyperbole. If we build up faith like we build up our muscles, we\u2019ll get to the point where truly astonishing things occur. In Florida prayer groups have prayed away storms and nuns in Omaha prayed away a tornado that suddenly lifted from its direct path toward them and in California the Big One has not yet come in part due (we are convinced) to those who have unfailingly prayed over that fault known as the San Andreas. Want a mountain? A few years back, an archbishop in Italy,\u00a0Monsignor Salvatore Gristina, went up Mount Etna, Europe\u2019s highest volcano, when its eruption jeopardized neighbouring buildings. For weeks the lava had been posing a dire threat, but only five hours after his benediction the flow suddenly veered off course. \u201c\u2018Divine intervention\u2019 diverts Etna lava,\u201d said a headline in England\u2019s Daily Telegraph,<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Fantasy?<\/span><\/p>\n

Faith can do\u00a0anything.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

How do we start?<\/span><\/p>\n

As with every other attribute, the way to increase faith is to constantly practice. When we use what we have and\u00a0all\u00a0<\/em>of what we have, faith grows; we receive more; it is a tightened, larger muscle. To use another metaphor, developing faith is like planting seeds. Mustard seeds. Those are among the tiniest seeds, but when nurtured they grow into an awesome tree, the branches of which reach heavenward, the bark of which is impenetrable, and the roots of which can split rocks beneath it.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you want to crack open a mountain, plant mustard seeds on top of it! Have faith even when prayers \u201caren\u2019t answered.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

If we plant enough seeds, there will still be a \u201charvest.\u201d\u00a0Any time we have faith, we are\u00a0blessed<\/em>.\u00a0And the better we become at it, the larger our harvest will become.\u00a0Even if some of the things we have faith in don\u2019t pan out \u2014 even if certain prayers aren\u2019t \u201canswered\u201d \u2014 we will still receive benefits. To us it may have seemed like an unanswered prayer \u2014 like we wasted faith \u2014 but that\u2019s never true.\u00a0He<\/em>\u00a0knows when we have done something in faithfulness.\u00a0He\u00a0<\/em>knows when we have held hope despite all the odds. He may not answer in the way we want, but if so, it\u2019s because it is not the time; it is not in His plan for us; it\u2019s not what is\u00a0best\u00a0<\/em>for us.<\/span><\/p>\n

But it still goes into what can be likened to a spiritual bank account.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

God keeps track of our faithfulness and adds \u201cinterest\u201d each time we exercise it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once we identify a problem in our lives, we verbalize its remedy. We do this in prayer. We remove thoughts of illness and failure and fear. We replace them with hope \u2014 with\u00a0knowing<\/em>\u00a0that God will do what is best for us. If it is right for us that the prayer be answered, then God will work the miracle. We don\u2019t deny the presence of a problem; we don\u2019t hide our heads in the sand. And we certainly don\u2019t lie to ourselves. But we\u00a0do\u00a0<\/em>deny the power of a problem over our divine right to remove it.<\/span><\/p>\n

We have the right. That\u2019s how good God is.<\/span><\/p>\n

When we practice faith in both small and large things, when we are constant, and when we never allow discouragement, we can expect a large harvest. Sometimes, it takes a while; sometimes, it comes in a gradual fashion. But it comes. It is\u00a0inevitable.\u00a0<\/em>No exercise of good faith is\u00a0ever\u00a0<\/em>wasted. If we maintain faith in all things \u2014 if we keep exercising it, if we keep tossing those seeds,\u00a0relentlessly<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 it\u2019s only a matter of time before a big prayer is answered in a big and miraculous way.<\/span><\/p>\n
