{"id":55750,"date":"2021-01-08T18:56:20","date_gmt":"2021-01-08T18:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/?p=55750"},"modified":"2021-01-08T18:56:20","modified_gmt":"2021-01-08T18:56:20","slug":"a-precious-photo-of-the-senior-seniors-by-somasundaram-skandakumar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/a-precious-photo-of-the-senior-seniors-by-somasundaram-skandakumar\/","title":{"rendered":"A Precious photo of the \u201cSenior \u201c Seniors \u2013 by Somasundaram Skandakumar"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">A Precious photo of the \u201cSenior \u201c Seniors \u2013 by\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b>Somasundaram Skandakumar<\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-55751 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Senior.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">The \u00a0new year greetings of hope for 2021 were marred by the news that \u201cMaster \u00a0\u201c Weerasingham, an English teacher of excellent repute at Royal College who subsequently \u00a0settled in Canberra had passed away at age 92 !\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Tiddy Wijeratne , Don Abey, Beryl Dias Abeysinghe ( widow of a former High Commissioner ) and \u201cMaster \u201c, as he was fondly referred to were the Canberra \u00a0senior seniors who graced all our Mission functions regularly inspite of being handicapped by mobility issues that are normal for those \u00a0beyond four score and ten !<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">They graciously lit the Lamp \u00a0to celebrate \u00a0events and their blessings stayed with us throughout the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Don Abey , a mountain of knowledge, Tiddy a cricket connoisseur and gentleman player in his time, and Beryl , gracious and elegant right up to to her 99 th bday, have all passed on to the heavens \u00a0above and \u00a0with Master joining \u00a0them, our \u00a0community in Canberra will \u00a0bid farewell to \u00a0yet another of its \u00a0much respected elders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">To me \u201c Master \u201cwas more than a teacher. A very dear friend whose deep affection was shared mutually to the extent that we spoke on the phone almost every week end after my return home in May 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">He was compassionate\u00a0 as he was wise and a meal at his home was always a joy because he insisted on cooking for his guests.\u00a0 On such evenings the Master Teacher not only excelled as a \u00a0Master Chef but was also the perfect host to his guests ranging from grateful students to prominent members of the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">His dedicated physician Dr Sivakumaran was often a special guest !<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Rest in Peace Dear Master. You have more than fulfilled your purpose on Earth and your legendary legacy as a teacher, counsellor, and a deeply caring friend will I am certain \u00a0live on in Canberra and in the hearts of all who knew you. Needless to say there will be his students the world over who will be paying their respects in an appropriate way to a Guru they loved and respected very much.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">A final word of appreciation for his daughter \u00a0Sulochana\u00a0 and son in law \u00a0Saravanan for their unconditional love and care of Master at their home even though they had the option of placing him in elders care in his final challenging years. Bless them both.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Although a familiar week end voice has been stilled \u00a0for me, the happy memories will remain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">\u201cSkanda\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Haputale<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Master Weerasingham, Tiddy Wijeratne ( partially hidden ) and Beryl Dias Abeysinghe in line to light the Oil Lamp at the 70 th Independance \u00a0Day celebration in 2018.
