Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Emergency Use Authorizations (EUA) for <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">COVID-19 vaccines, in many countries, and so far, it is supposed to be safe, from large clinical trials, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">except for minor side effects and reactions lasting for a few days in a very few.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">In order, for the authorization to be granted, the vaccine manufacturers need to follow-up for at least <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">two months after the trial emergency vaccination, and the vaccine must be proved safe and effective in\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">the respective population vaccinated.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Dozens of coronavirus vaccines have entered the clinical trials during 2020, and now a handful have <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">been authorized to the public while the developers continue collecting data on their safety and efficacy. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">In a few months, it is hoped that all these vaccines would have met with all the necessary criteria and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">the jabs will start with more confidence.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Australia could start vaccinating vulnerable groups of the population next month, Prime Minister Scott <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Morrison has revealed, saying approvals for the Pfizer vaccine were hoped to be finalized by the end of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">January.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">He hopes to vaccinate 80,000 people each week to begin with, and for that to build over the 4 to 6 <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">weeks<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Professor Brendan Murphy, secretary of the federal Health Department, said nearly half the Australian <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">population would be included in one of the priority groups to receive the vaccine in the first half of this <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">The rest of the general adult population could expect to receive the vaccine from the middle of the year <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">onwards.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Australia will start with the Pfizer vaccine and follow up with the AstraZeneca.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">You can get the jabs from the following places: <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Established Respiratory clinics <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">General Practices<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Special clinics the State health departments will establish <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Or sites set up by Aboriginal community-controlled health services. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Pharmacies will join during the second half of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Minor side effects<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Experts still note that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the small risk <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Anaphylaxis after vaccination is rare, occurring at a rate of about 1.31 per cent per million doses of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">vaccine administration. Of these 85 percent are people who have allergies.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">About nine million people in the United States have received at least one shot of either the Pfizer or <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Moderna coronavirus vaccine, the two authorized in the United States. So far, serious problems <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">reported were 29 cases of anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction. None were reported as fatal. Many <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">people have had other side effects like sore arms, fatigue, headache or fever, which are usually <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">transient.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\"><strong>Should people with allergies take the jab?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">CDC- Centres for Disease control and prevention recommends that you should not get either of the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">currently available mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, if you have allergies. Australia still has not organized a <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Centre fo Disease control.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">If you get a COVID-19 vaccine and you think you might be having a severe allergic reaction after <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">leaving the vaccination site, seek immediate medical care by calling the respective emergency number <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">-000 in Australia.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">All vaccination centres will be equipped to treat allergies immediately after the jab. The common <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">injections given are epinephrine just under the skin or EpiPen <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">If you get a allergic reaction after the first dose the CDC recommends that you should not get the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">second dose.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Some of the mild allergic reactions may occur within 4 hours after getting vaccinated, such as hives, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">swelling, and wheezing (respiratory distress).<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">If you have allergies other than to the mRNA vaccine you need to ask your doctor if you should get a <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">COVID-19 vaccine.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">CDC recommends that people with a history of severe allergic reactions not related to vaccines or <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">injectable medications\u2014such as food, pet, venom, environmental, or latex allergies\u2014get vaccinated.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">People with a history of allergies to oral medications or a family history of severe allergic reactions may <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">also get vaccinated.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Is the vaccine safe for people with chronic conditions, like heart disease and diabetes? <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">People with chronic diseases or compromised immune systems like those taking methotrexate to lower <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">your immune reactions, are at greater risk of more serious illness if you are infected with the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">coronavirus.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">So, it is advisable to have the jab in such situations. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">It is best to get advice from your family doctor. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">You are at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19 if you: <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">have had an organ transplant and are on immune suppressive therapy, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">have had a bone marrow transplant in the past 2 years <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">are on immune suppressive therapy for graft versus host disease <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">have had blood cancer, in the past 5 years, including leukaemia, lymphoma or myelodysplastic <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">syndrome, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">are having chemotherapy or radiotherapy, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">You are at moderate risk of severe illness from COVID-19 if you have: <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">chronic kidney (renal) failure, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">heart disease (coronary heart disease or failure)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">chronic lung disease, excluding mild or moderate asthma <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">had cancer in the past 12 months <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">diabetes, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">severe obesity with a body mass index of 40 kg\/m2 or more, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">chronic liver disease, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">some neurological conditions such as stroke or dementia, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">some chronic inflammatory conditions and treatments,<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">other primary or acquired immune-deficiency, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">poorly controlled hypertension (may increase risk)<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Your level of risk depends on other factors, including your age, gender and whether you smoke.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">So, it is advisable to have the jab if you are within any of the above categories. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Sri Lanka will get its quota of vaccines by the Indian state-run company. It is more a <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">family decision than a single person. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Some may wait for the herd immunity and that is the immunity you get from indirect protection from an<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">infectious disease that happens when a population is immuine either through vaccination or immunity<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">developed through previous infections. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Attempts to reach \u2018herd immunity\u2019 through exposing people to a virus are scientifically problematic and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">unethical.
