{"id":56992,"date":"2021-01-26T12:11:05","date_gmt":"2021-01-26T12:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/?p=56992"},"modified":"2021-01-26T12:11:05","modified_gmt":"2021-01-26T12:11:05","slug":"patron-anton-swan-receives-oam-in-australia-day-honours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/patron-anton-swan-receives-oam-in-australia-day-honours\/","title":{"rendered":"Patron Anton Swan receives OAM in Australia Day Honours"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"font-size: 28px; color: #000000;\"><strong>Patron Anton Swan receives OAM in Australia Day Honours<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-56993\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Anton-Swan.jpg\" alt=\"Anton-Swan\" width=\"300\" height=\"287\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">OAM honours for Anton Swan<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slsaq.com.au\/news\/patron-anton-swan-receives-oam-in-australia-day-honours\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sri Lanka Sports Association of Queensland<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Anton Swan, Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Queensland and Sri Lanka Sports Association patron, was awarded an OAM (Medal in the Order of Australia) in the Australia Day Honours issued today (January 26).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Mr Swan received his award for his selfless service to the Sri Lankan community in Queensland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Apart from his long-standing involvement with the SLSAQ, Mr Swan also is the patron of the Federation of Sri Lankan Organisations of Queensland and Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen\u2019s and Police Association Queensland. He is the Dean of the Consular Corps of Queensland, made up of consuls and consul-generals representing 47 countries. Among his other many achievements, he spearheaded the successful Disaster Relief Fund and coordinated the Sri Lanka pavilion at Expo \u201988.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">He was among 570 recipients in the General Division of the Order of Australia \u2013 371 of them OAM recipients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">In announcing the awards, Governor-General David Hurley said: \u201cOn behalf of all Australians, I congratulate everyone recognised in the Australia Day Honours list. The individuals we celebrate today come from all parts of our great nation and have served the community in almost every way conceivable. They\u2019re diverse and unique but there are some common characteristics, including selflessness, commitment and dedication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">\u201cRecipients have not put their hand up to be recognised. Most would consider the achievements that they are being recognised for to be \u2018ordinary\u2019 or just what they do. Therein is the great strength of our system \u2013 recipients in the Order of Australia have been nominated by their peers, considered by an independent process and, today, recognised by the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">\u201cThe sum of these contributions speaks to our nation\u2019s greatest strength \u2013 its people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Mr Swan, in acknowledging the wave of congratulatory messages, said: \u201cI feel humbled and honoured to receive this award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">\u201cThis belongs to all of you. Thank you for your support and all the work you are doing in our community.
