At the best of times, English is a very strange language, indeed. There are not too many languages that have the variety of meanings of one tiny 2 letter word like “UP<\/strong>“, however, here they are, folks, for your personal perusal.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 In this day and age, our younger generations do not seem to worry about this International Language, trying their best to abbreviate words a-plenty, using little hand-held devices, but when it comes to the Queen’s English (as it is known), this is a tragedy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Although it is a strange, and sometimes difficult language to master, there is NONE OTHER, that is accepted so widely around this World of ours, and as I have written, so many times, ENGLISH has to be TAUGHT (or perhaps re-taught, which is a better way of saying this), CORRECTLY, to the children of today, in order to prevent the language from going astray, altogether.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 READING, from the kindergarten upwards, would be the best way to start. My own kindergarten reader, plus the hundreds of books that followed, was an education in itself, as far as I was concerned. My advice, given regularly, was always this. Children, put away your little electronic toys sometimes, and concentrate on reading good books. Make note of ALL punctuation marks, in what you read, and you will make “UP” for all the perplexing, sometimes irritating complexities the Queen’s English has to offer, while, at the same time, making you more knowledgeable and eager to learn MORE !!. I think that I have now said enough in introducing this PHENOMENAL 2 LETTER WORD,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

so I will now just shut UP.<\/span><\/p>\n

PHENOMENAL 2\u00a0 LETTER WORD<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I’m sure\u00a0 you will enjoy this. I never knew one word in the English language that could be a noun, verb, adj, adv, prep.<\/span><\/p>\n

UP<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Read until the end … you’ll\u00a0 laugh.<\/span><\/p>\n

This two-letter word in English has\u00a0 more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that word is ‘UP<\/strong>.’\u00a0 It is listed in the dictionary as an [adv], [prep], [adj],\u00a0 [n] or [v].<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s easy to understand\u00a0UP<\/strong>, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake\u00a0UP<\/strong>?<\/span><\/p>\n

At a meeting, why does a topic come\u00a0UP<\/strong>?\u00a0\u00a0 Why do we speak\u00a0UP<\/strong>, and why are the officers\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0for election (if there is a tie, it is a toss\u00a0UP<\/strong>)\u00a0 and why is it\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0to the secretary to write\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0a report? We call\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0our friends, brighten\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0a room, polish\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0the silver, warm\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0the leftovers and clean\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0the kitchen.\u00a0 We lock\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0the house and fix\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0the old car.<\/span><\/p>\n

At other times, this little word has real special\u00a0 meaning.\u00a0 People stir\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0trouble, line\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0 for tickets, work\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0an appetite, and think\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0excuses.<\/span><\/p>\n

To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0is special.<\/span><\/p>\n

And this\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0is confusing: A drain must be opened\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0because it is blocked\u00a0UP<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

We open\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0a store in the morning but we close it\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0at night.\u00a0 We seem to be pretty mixed\u00a0\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0about\u00a0UP<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n

To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of\u00a0UP<\/strong>, look\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0the word\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0almost 1\/4 of the page and can add\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0to about thirty definitions.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you are\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0to it, you might try building\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0a list of the many ways\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0is used. It will take\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0 a lot of your time, but if you don’t give\u00a0UP<\/strong>, you may wind\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0with (UP<\/strong>\u00a0to) a hundred or more.<\/span><\/p>\n

When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding\u00a0UP<\/strong>.\u00a0 When the sun comes out, we say it is clearing\u00a0UP<\/strong>.\u00a0 When it rains, it soaks\u00a0UP<\/strong>\u00a0the earth. When it does not rain for awhile, things dry\u00a0UP<\/strong>.\u00a0 One could go on and on, but I’ll wrap it\u00a0UP<\/strong>,\u00a0 for now . . . my time is\u00a0UP<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh . . . one more thing: What is the\u00a0 first thing you do in the morning and the last thing you\u00a0 do at night?<\/span><\/p>\n
