They are obese and indulge in less <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">physical activities.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Greece ranks 16 on a 2007 list of fattiest countries with a percentage <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">of 65.5% of its citizens with an unhealthy weight. This contrasts with <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">the individuals of the past Mediterranean countries like Greece <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">known to live a healthy lifestyle.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Let us talk about the French paradox. That observation of low <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">coronary heart disease death rates despite high intake of dietary <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">cholesterol and saturated fats, formulated by French epidemiologists <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">in the 1980s was remarkable. They do not use olive oil in their <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">cuisines and salads like the Mediterranean\u2019s, but more popularly use <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">flavourless oils, like peanut, vegetable, or canola. They do use olive <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">oil for Mediterranean-inspired dishes, and more used in the South of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">France. France is a small producer of olive oil compared to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">neighbouring Spain and Italy.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">The Japanese have done better. There mortality from cardiovascular <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">disease is lower because their intake of red meat is low and high <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">intake of fish, and plant-based items like soybeans and non-sugarsweetened beverages.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Their method of eating habits is different: eating small quantities <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">more often.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">According to Euromonitor, Japanese adults on average drink 4.4 <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">shots of hard liquor per week, the fifth highest in the world behind <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">top two South Korea and Russia. Japanese laws on drinking in public <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">are generally relaxed.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Japanese people though living longer than the Mediterranean people <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">like the Greeks and Italians, do not use olive oil in their cuisines.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Rapeseed oil using canola seeds is the top oil in Japan in terms of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">both demand and production.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Japanese live longer than the Mediterranean people, though the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">olive oil usage is nil. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">The above linked video obviously has commercial interest.
