For 1,000 years,\u00a0millions of people have walked in each other’s footsteps on a revered pilgrimage trail in north-western Spain.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Camino de Santiago, or\u00a0“The Way of St\u00a0James”, is a network of routes across Western Europe leading to the resting place of the apostle Saint James the Great.<\/span><\/p>\n

More than just a hike, people often embark on the 809-kilometre walk that leads them away\u00a0from their daily routines and usual comforts for a variety of deeply personal reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Melbourne’s Luke Mills, it was a life-changing family tragedy that deepened\u00a0his interest in “the Camino”, as the pilgrimage\u00a0is colloquially known.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Mills was grappling with\u00a0his wife Gabriella’s unexpected death in 2008 and\u00a0the reality of raising\u00a0their three young children alone.<\/span><\/p>\n
