Another year has come by where we celebrate Mother\u2019s Day in the <\/span>month of May. I truly believe that a Mother should be celebrated <\/span>every day. However, does this busy life allow us to do that?<\/span>
\nThere are Mothers in this <\/span>world, and then there are Sri <\/span>Lankan Mothers. My mother <\/span>is no different to any other <\/span>
\nSri Lankan Mother. She <\/span>makes me second guess my <\/span>choice of clothes, treats me as <\/span>if I am still 5 years old, asks <\/span>
\nme to look after my health <\/span>but also, bakes me a butter <\/span>cake.<\/span><\/p>\n

My mother Merly is a very <\/span>emotional lady. A running <\/span>joke in the family is that we <\/span>call her \u2018Rukmani Devi\u2019. Just <\/span>
\nlike the late Sri Lankan actress, she cries at absolutely everything. <\/span>This is because her heart is full of kindness and love. She is strong, <\/span>considerate and thoughtful. Another beautiful quality of hers is that <\/span>she truly invests her time to be there for her loved ones and empathise with their situations. Her love and care for her friends and family goes above and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I am not proud of this but during testing times in life, I have hurt her <\/span>feelings. However, one hug and a \u2018sorry\u2019 would melt her heart and <\/span>everything is all back to normal. Her unconditional love amazes me. <\/span>Amma, you are everything to us. We may not show it every day, but <\/span>please know that we are nothing without your love and guidance. I <\/span>will never truly understand what you have sacrificed for us, until I <\/span>become a mother myself. Till then, please excuse me if I fail to understand you. <\/span>I hope one day I will become a loving and a devoted mother, just like <\/span>
\nyou have been to me and my sister. Thank you for bringing us into <\/span>this world. We love you more than words could ever say.<\/span>
\nTo all the strong and beautiful mothers out there, with all my heart, I <\/span>wish you a very Happy Mother\u2019s Day. Also, let us not forget the <\/span>Mothers to be, Mothers who have lost their battles but are still hopeful, Aunts who love their nephews and nieces, and pet mothers. I <\/span>wish them all a very Happy Mother\u2019s Day. <\/span>
