{"id":67525,"date":"2021-06-24T15:48:43","date_gmt":"2021-06-24T15:48:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/?p=67525"},"modified":"2021-06-24T15:48:43","modified_gmt":"2021-06-24T15:48:43","slug":"provincial-study-centres-to-help-students-without-internet-and-computer-facilities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/provincial-study-centres-to-help-students-without-internet-and-computer-facilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Provincial study centres to help students without internet and computer facilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 28px; color: #99cc00;\">Provincial study centres to help students without internet and computer facilities<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-67526 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/websitedesigns.com.au\/elankanew\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Prof.-G.L.Peiris.jpg\" alt=\"Prof. G.L.Peiris\" width=\"320\" height=\"406\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #800000;\">Source:<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 20px;\" href=\"https:\/\/island.lk\/provincial-study-centres-to-help-students-without-internet-and-computer-facilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">island<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Education Minister Prof.\u00a0G.L.Peiris\u00a0yesterday (21) said that provincial education\u00a0centres\u00a0would\u00a0be\u00a0established\u00a0for the benefit of\u00a0students unable\u00a0to engage in online education due to various issues faced by them,\u00a0amidst\u00a0the pandemic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">\u00a0Addressing the media at the Government Information Department, the Minister said, schoolchildren had to cover the syllabuses\u00a0online as the schools were closed due to Covid-19 and to\u00a0facilitate\u00a0their educational TV\u00a0programmes\u00a0such as \u201cGuru\u00a0Gedera\u201d, \u201cThaksalawa\u201d and through the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation while study courses had been\u00a0organised\u00a0for teachers through \u201cvirtual classrooms\u201d on the e-thaksala\u00a0programme.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">E-thaksala\u00a0has over 6,500 lessons and they are accessed by around 250,000 persons a day and last month the lessons were accessed by 3.5 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">\u00a0He said, \u201cGurugedera\u201d programme telecast on the Eye channel in both Sinhala and Tamil medium and it functioned\u00a016 hours a day on five days of the week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">The programme offers around 5,000 lessons to students from Grade 3 to\u00a0the\u00a0Advanced Level.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">There is no charge to access e-thaksala.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">Those e-programmes\u00a0were\u00a0conducted by the Education Quality Development National Institute and\u00a0many\u00a0such\u00a0programmes\u00a0were being conducted under the supervision of directors in charge of the respective\u00a0zonal, divisional, school and grade levels, the Minister pointed out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">However, Prof. Peiris conceded\u00a0that 12% of students had no access to those\u00a0programmes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">The Minister said that\u00a0to\u00a0address the grave shortcoming, provincial education directors had been instructed on June 17 to\u00a0establish\u00a0provincial study\u00a0centres. They would function strictly according to health guidelines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">The proposed\u00a0centres\u00a0are scheduled to function from 7.00 am till 3.00 pm.
