It is <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">famous today because of the education center Galahitiyawa Central <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">College.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">How this name came to use has a beautiful story. It was the time that <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">there were no motor cars in the world. Our main way of carrying <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">goods to places was the bullock cart. To ensure security bullock carts <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">got together and went on the gravel roads as a team. This was called <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">\u201cgel saathuwa\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">The country was not <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">thickly populated like <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">today and moving as <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">a team had many <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">advantages. They <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">normally travelled a <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">distance of about <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">twelve miles a day and rested overnight and moved on. As a result <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">of this practice, small business places came up in places where the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">cartmen rested.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">The cartmen had the practice of seeking the help of gods in the area <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">they entered. In Godakawela, there was a small place where the cartmen as a practice prayed to the local deity specially for their protection.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">One day there was a young arrogant cartman who did not want to go <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">to the deity and pray and continued the journey. He argued with the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">others and moved on. As he passed the place of worship the bulls <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">refused to move and the cart was stuck as if the load became heavy <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">to be pulled. The young cartman tried his best to move forward but <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">he failed. He was in tears and pleaded to the deity to forgive him. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">The refined Sinhala word for the cart is \u201c\u0d9c \u0db4\u201d,\u0dd2\u201c\u0dc4\u0dd2\u0da7\u0dd2\u0dd9\u201d means <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">\u201cStopped\u201d. The place where the cart was stuck became <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #000000;\">\u201cGalahitiyawa\u201d .
