Since leaving Sinhala school I have <\/span>completed my formal education at <\/span>university and have graduated from <\/span>QUT with a master’s degree in Architecture with a Second Class Honours. From a very early age I had the ambition to become an architect <\/span>after seeing the work of Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa. I am <\/span>extremely proud to have achieved this.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Currently I am working in an architectural firm where I am designing <\/span>new homes and renovations around Brisbane. The types of houses I<\/span>
\ntypically work with range from traditional pre-war heritage homes, <\/span>townhouses and modern. <\/span>Working in this firm has kept me in touch with my artistic interests by <\/span>allowing me to stay creative by developing designs which express my <\/span>art. It\u2019s a surreal feeling being able to see something that’s been drawn <\/span>on paper being put into construction and the final product. It\u2019s like <\/span>seeing your art come to life. <\/span><\/p>\n

Outside of work I <\/span>mostly spend time with <\/span>my wife, 2 dogs, family <\/span>and friends. My passion <\/span>for art has remained a <\/span>major part of my life<\/span>
\nthrough my career as an <\/span>architect and also <\/span>through a side business <\/span>I started a few years ago <\/span>called A.Jay Art. Here I <\/span>create custom pieces<\/span>
\nand sell them to people <\/span>around Australia and <\/span>some parts of the world <\/span>which include: Sri <\/span>Lanka, New Zealand, <\/span>France and the US. It\u2019s <\/span>quite surreal to know <\/span>that my art has been <\/span>able to travel around <\/span>the world to places outside my own bedroom. I will always be extremely grateful for those who have supported me through my artistic journey. <\/span>In the future, I hope to utilise my passion for art and design to create <\/span>a piece of architecture that would pay homage to my Sri Lankan culture and would sit proud somewhere in the world and is recognised<\/span>
\nby many.<\/span><\/p>\n
