How the name <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">came into being is quite an interesting story. It has to be said that<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">there are sometimes more than one version behind how names of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">places originated.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">There was a well known \u201cWalauwa \u201c in the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">area and they commanded much respect from <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">the people. Though the villagers respected <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">them they had a disliking for this family as they <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">were leading an exclusive life disregarding the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">common people. But this was not evident to the \u201cWalauwa people\u201d.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">The peasants were helpless as most of them worked in the \u201cWalauwa <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">lands \u201c for a living.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">The caste system was prevalent at that time. There was a maturing <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">son in the \u201cWalauwa family\u201d and he had a roving eye for the pretty<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">girls in the village. There was a very beautiful low caste girl among <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">the families that worked in the Walauwa land and obviously she became the target of the young son. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">This was not something uncommon at that time. The rich had their <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">say and their way over the poor people. It so happened this young girl <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">became the mistress of the son of the Walauwa and she had two children by him. The Walauwa supressed the event by giving the low <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">cast woman land and money. She was never allowed to step in to the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">Walauwa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">The parents of the woman named the first child \u201cElaya\u201d and the second child \u201cPathaya\u201d. When these two sons grew up they were given <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">land by the Walauwa and settled them to make their living. People <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">began to call the village where the eldest, \u201cElaya\u201d live \u201cElaya Gama\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">and the other \u201cPathaya gama\u201d.
