The Golden Era-by Vikum Perera<\/span><\/h1>\n

So last time I wrote in this space, I <\/span>was only 12 years old. I started off <\/span>with a tribute to my fallen comrade, <\/span>Harry, my pet guinea pig. I hope I can honour my 12-year-old self and <\/span>Harry with the story to follow. <\/span><\/p>\n

Every accomplishment and setback in <\/span>my current 25 years of existence has <\/span>moulded me into the person I am today. The last two years have been the <\/span>most substantial. I call it \u2018The Golden <\/span>Era\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n


\nThis started with me graduating with a <\/span>Bachelor\u2019s in Civil Engineering. Two <\/span>days later, I was living the dream, off to <\/span>a holiday trip in the USA! <\/span>Now I\u2019m a bit of a prankster, as some of you may know. The USA trip <\/span>started with me in transit at the Hawaii airport. I thought it\u2019d be a <\/span>great idea to prank myself and lose my passport. The old classic get <\/span>stranded in an overseas airport prank. Alright it wasn\u2019t really a prank.<\/span>
\n\u2018Lucky\u2019 for me, I did find it. In my sleep deprived state, I left my bag <\/span>halfway across the airport. <\/span><\/p>\n

The rest of the trip was amazing. <\/span>New York, Washington DC, Vegas, San Francisco, LA, although <\/span>there was another prank. The <\/span>friend I was visiting, got deported <\/span>for overstaying his Visa. Classic. <\/span>This forced me to travel alone, <\/span>which I was very hesitant about. It <\/span>turned out to be a great experience. One that ignited my passion <\/span>for solo travel and interest to explore the beauty of this world.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The remaining time in \u2018The <\/span>Golden Era\u2019 has been an intense <\/span>period of personal and professional <\/span>development. I have been improving my skills as a civil engineer. <\/span>And in my down time, go on adventures and film with my drone. <\/span>It gives me expert stalking capabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hopefully next time I write here, I <\/span>am 38 and have a good guinea pig <\/span>story for you all. I will call my next <\/span>one \u2018Lucky\u2019. That\u2019s been a big <\/span>theme in my life.<\/span>
\nTo my past self, you\u2019ll do great kid. And to future me, plus everyone<\/span>
\nreading, follow your dreams!<\/span><\/p>\n
