This book celebrates the feats of players from Melbourne Grammar School and Sydney Grammar School in this historic
\nand oldest continuing inter-colonial (interstate) cricket match in Australia which started in 1876.<\/p>\n

The author, James Cattlin, a \u2018Grammar boy\u2019 who captained SGS in 1960 and 1961, is truly inspired by his passion for cricket and his participation in the rivalry between the two schools which has garnered life-long friendships.<\/p>\n

The descriptions of matches are interspersed with a profile of several important early representative players, such as the enigmatic RC Allen, AP Jones, Tibby Cotter, WM Bruce, Ted a\u2019Beckett and the Barbour family.<\/p>\n

\"MGS<\/a><\/p>\n

It is interesting to compare the terms and language of yesteryear with those used today. Following the progress of each match gives the reader a feel of the rivalry and effort put in by the players in an annual match which was regarded by both schools as the real test of their strength, the pinnacle of their season\u2019s effort with the reputation of the school on the line. It\u2019s a cricket book for cricketers and a permanent record of their achievements and failings for all to read in one volume.<\/p>\n

Alan McGilvray, SGS and NSW cricket captain, legendary broadcaster and first President of the Old Sydneians\u2019 Cricket Club, spoke the following words when he was addressing a reception for the two schools\u2019 teams.<\/p>\n
