Famed singer Kamahl has admitted his chronic \u201caddiction\u201d may have played a role in the breakdown of his 55-year marriage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iconic singer Kamahl has spoken out on the deterioration of his marriage, admitting a peculiar \u201caddiction\u201d probably contributed to it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Malaysian-born singer was married to wife Sahodra for 55 years before separating earlier this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kamahl made the sad announcement in a new interview with\u00a0New Idea<\/i>\u00a0earlier this month and confessed he\u2019s \u201cpraying\u201d for a reconciliation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking on\u00a0A Current Affair<\/i>, the 87-year old said he blames himself and his peculiar addiction to social media for the separation, adding to previous comments about his fame distracting him \u201cfrom what really matters\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was isolated with my computer,\u201d he said, revealing he was spending up to five hours a day scrolling social media.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think she was sick and tired, I\u2019m consumed with politics. I\u2019m tweeting from morning to night \u2026 I\u2019m paying a terrible price for it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Kamahl, who said his musical inspiration came from being \u201can incurable romantic\u201d, has gifts waiting for his former wife, but said he\u2019s unsure if she\u2019d want them.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe might throw it back at me, but I\u2019m going to give it to her anyway,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe really is the wind beneath my wings. I now realise I probably wasn\u2019t the most attentive husband.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFame can do that \u2013 it can distract you from what really matters. But I\u2019m keeping everything crossed we can work through this rough patch, as she really is my everything.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day, I am the sinner. She is the saint.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Kamahl says his addiction to social media could have been the cause of his marriage breakdown.<\/span><\/div>\n

Kamahl and Sahodra have two children together \u2013 son Rajan, 52, and daughter Rani, 50, who enjoyed a brief pop career in the late \u201990s.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said that despite the split, he and Sahodra \u201cremain close\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThankfully, things are convivial \u2013 we see one another regularly. She still cooks me her unbelievably delicious lamb shanks every fortnight,\u201d Kamahl said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The singer\u2019s latest interview came after his public denouncing of the treatment he was subjected to on\u00a0Hey Hey It\u2019s Saturday<\/i>\u00a0in the 1980s. Resurfaced clips, including one of an unsuspecting Kamahl being ambushed mid-song and hit in the face with a white powder puff,\u00a0were received poorly online<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kamahl admitted it \u201churt\u201d being subjected to racist jokes on the variety show, pointing out that the same gags wouldn\u2019t have been played out on white performers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Appearing on\u00a0Studio 10<\/i>\u00a0this month, he said of the saga: \u201cThere is a reason why they did what they did.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason is that I was successful \u2026 They couldn\u2019t understand it \u2026 It\u2019s a form of envy, jealousy, hate. It was their form of cutting the tall poppy down.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt hurt, of course it hurt. It\u2019s terrible to be humiliated. I know they wouldn\u2019t hit John Farnham or Jimmy Barnes in the face with a powder puff, but the root of it was I was too successful for them \u2026 If I was a nobody, they wouldn\u2019t have done anything.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
