During this time she had got the unique opportunity to appear in test broadcasting transmissions in the national television which was gearing to commence transmissions under the Sri \u00a0Lanka Rupavahini\u00a0Corporation which was a gigantic gifer\u00a0by the Japanese government.By\u00a0sheer quirk Chandralekha was spotted by Film director and producer renowned DB Nihalsinghe.DB\u00a0Nihalsinghe\u00a0had selected Chadralekha\u00a0for the television series \u201cRekha\u201d which made her a star in year 1986.Apart from acting she had contributed four main songs in \u00a0\u201cRekha\u201d \u00a0namely Del Wu Pahan. Hiru Hinehena. Wasanthaye\u00a0Mal Samaye\u00a0and Neela Nuwan Yuga.All\u00a0lyrics were by Professor Sunil Ariyaratne and \u00a0music by legendary Rohana Weerasinghe.Chandralekha\u00a0was adjudicated as the best actress in a subsequent teledrama \u00a0\u2018Nadee Geethaya\u2019\u00a0teledrama. The attack sparked a protest by actor and film producer Dharmasiri Bandaranayake who too thereafter \u00a0received death threats. In the wake of these developments,\u00a0<i>Artists Against Violence<\/i>\u00a0(AAV) was founded. Ten officers of the PSD were arrested for the attacks given jail sentences in 2013, but Rookantha\u00a0her husband and Chandralekha both handed in a letter to \u00a0President Mahinda Rajapaksa requesting him to give President\u2019s pardon the wrongdoers as they were\u00a0chosen to forgive them especially because the PSD officials who were arrested are mere workers of the previous President and punishing the innocent was\u00a0not \u00a0intention of the duo as they had just carried out orders of the superiors.After\u00a0the year 2000 the family was dejected migrated to USA and returned\u00a0only after over a decade.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"m_-5122090864038805379eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p class=\"m_-5122090864038805379paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><span class=\"m_-5122090864038805379normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The exclusive concert of Rookantha\u00a0and Chandralekha is \u2018Ru Sanda\u00a0Rae\u2019 which means \u201cBeauty Moon Night\u201d. The first concert was staged at the Elphinston\u00a0Theatre in Colombo, Sri Lanka in February 1993. To-date it has been staged in many places in Sri Lanka and around the globe including Italy, France, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, USA, and the UAE.
