“CENSUS TO STUN THE SENSES”<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

I was really stunned to read this Census-drivel, as I would call it.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, as they say, facts are stubborn, and if the current census shows that “non-religious” surges, as they put it, this is possibly exactly what it shows.<\/span><\/p>\n

Christianity to me is very simple.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the holy name suggests, it has all got to do with a man called CHRIST. JESUS CHRIST God’s Son was sent to Earth, to live, and then die an excruciating death on a wooden cross at Calvary in order to save mankind who committed the same sin of “doubt”, as exactly that of the non- religious, now penning their silly remarks on the latest cencus forms. The World IS going through very tough times, but it isn’t because of God, folks, MAN is the ultimate culprit for everything now happening on our planet, and now trying to blame CHRISTIANITY for all our troubles. Instead of playing the “blame-game” we Christians should be PRAYING to the ALMIGHTY GOD\/JESUS CHRIST, to give us another chance to save ourselves, and being a LOVING GOD, HE might consider it if we have enough FAITH to believe once again, in HIM. This goes double for the “non-religious”, now current.<\/span><\/p>\n

Please remember folks, I have been as big a sinner as anyone reading this, BUT I NEVER EVER LOST FAITH IN ALMIGHTY GOD. It is HE who still keeps me going, so I will now print my sincere final words.<\/span><\/p>\n

Australia has become strikingly more godless over the past decade, with the latest census data showing the proportion of self-identified Christians dropping below 50 per cent for the first time and a soaring number of people describing themselves as \u201cnon-religious\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first tranche of data from the 2021 census, released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday, shows that just 44 per cent of Australians now identify as Christian, down from 52 per cent five years earlier and 61 per cent in 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the first census was conducted in 1911, 96 per cent of Australians listed a form of Christianity as their religion.<\/span><\/p>\n

The proportion of Australians identifying as Catholic declined from 23 to 20 per cent over the past five years while self-identified Anglicans dropped from 13 to 10 per cent.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

By contrast, the share of Australians identifying as \u201cnon-religious\u201d has surged.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thirty-nine per cent of Australians now identify as non-religious, up from 30 per cent in 2016 and almost double the 22 per cent of Australians who ticked the \u201cno religion\u201d box a decade ago.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the mid-1960s, less than 1 per cent of people in Australia identified as having no religion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Based on current trends, non-believers could overtake Christians as the biggest religious bloc in Australia by the time the next census is conducted in 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

The move away from Christianity accelerated rapidly over the past decade after previously being in a steady long-term decline.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sydney student Alexandra Wright, 24, exemplifies the national drift away from Christianity.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a child growing up in Sydney\u2019s eastern suburbs, Wright was raised in a devout Irish Catholic family whose members attended church every Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wright felt so connected to her faith that she insisted on attending a Catholic high school, St Vincent\u2019s College in Potts Point.<\/span><\/p>\n

By age 15, however, she began to have an \u201cinkling\u201d that religion was no longer for her; a few years later she no longer identified as Catholic.<\/span><\/p>\n

When filling out last year\u2019s census, she chose \u201cno religion\u201d without hesitation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wright said religion undoubtedly had a \u201cbeautiful\u201d side, as seen in the comfort her grandfather drew from the promise of an afterlife before he died. But she had seen a more negative side too<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThere is the corruption in the church, the power-tripping of priests,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Wright said her siblings and many friends had moved away from religion as they grew up.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s this generation,\u201d she said. \u201cWe all grew up with religion but when you start living your life you realise you don\u2019t identify with it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The Church\u2019s socially conservative teachings on same-sex marriage and sex before wedlock seem outdated to most young people today, she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The census results show that some non-Christian religions are growing in strength – even as they continue to make up a small share of the national population.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The number of people who identified as Hindu in the census surged by 55 per cent over the past five years, reflecting an influx of migrants from countries such as India and Nepal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Around 684,000 people in Australia, or 2.7 per cent of the population, identify with Hinduism.<\/span><\/p>\n

Islam\u2019s share of the national population has grown to 3.2 per cent, up from 2.6 per cent in 2016. Around 813,000 people in Australia identify with Islam.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Australian Statistician David Gruen said the religion question holds a \u201cspecial place\u201d in the census because it is one of a few topics that has featured in all 18 censuses and is the only question that is voluntary.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Despite being voluntary, the proportion of people answering the question rose from 91 per cent in 2016 to 93 per cent in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n
