The Srilankan schools that were closed for two weeks due to fuel and other shortages have reopened on the 25th<\/sup>\u00a0July 2022 and\u00a0 UKFG has resumed their\u00a0 Free Lunch For Children programme .\u00a0\u00a0 The situation in Srilanka is still critical. Prices\u00a0 of essential food have gone up by 300% aince April and the fuel shortage has brought many services to halt.\u00a0\u00a0 Out of 170,0000 low income families 900,000\u00a0 could afford only one meal a day now . Most of the children come to school with no dinner and\u00a0 breakfast. Naturally , starving children could not concentrate on the lessons<\/span><\/p>\n

Realising this tragedy, this week we have expanded our programme to cover\u00a0 fed 1500 children in five\u00a0 schools at Kamburupitya. They are Mapalana, Godawa, Sapugoda, Thumbe and Gathara schools<\/span><\/p>\n

We are very grateful to our friends in UK,\u00a0Mr\u00a0 Neil & Mrs Helen\u00a0 Carson, Mr Michael , Mr Alan & Mrs Della\u00a0 Keen, Mr Alan Huchison , Mr Tom Blackwell ,\u00a0 Dr Uditha & Mrs Kumari Bopitiya, Mrs Nicky Pharaoh, Mr Mark Miller, Mr Ananda Wijesingha and Mrs Sujani Wijethunga in Canada\u00a0 and Johnson Matthey Limited in London who have generously donated funds for this humanitarian project.\u00a0 The cost of feeding\u00a0 300 children in a school is around Rupees 35000 (about \u00a380 ) . \u00a31000\u00a0 ( Rs 420,000) would feed 1800\u00a0 children for a week.<\/span><\/p>\n
